Hello fellow simmers, captjim here again.  Any comments on Windows 7 ?. :-?

I've been using it since the RC came out and it's been great. I used to use XP Pro x64 SP2 before this, and I have noticed some increase in performance.

To me, it has been a reliable OS; smooth, fast, safe.

Happy with it so far, can't wait until October 22nd

I short sold Microsoft this morning, and gonna use that money to buy 7.

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I'm pretty impressed so far. It's fast, boots up in about the same time as XP, looks fantastic (never used Aero before), responsive, etc... but it uses heaps of RAM, but that's probably because I'm on 64 bit and I have not optimized it or anything. Haven't tried FSX on it yet but I don't expect it to be any better (or worse).

O&O Defrag doesn't work but then again luckily I use perfect disk... some of Nicks tweaks are default...

that's a cache feature, it's using your RAM as a cache for frequently used programs so the OS doesn't have to go to disk as much, and it speeds them up quite a bit.

I am one of the uneducated masses, and it has been proven that what I know little when it comes to computers.

BUT....

I replaced my older PC with a new I7, and windows 7 64 bit, and I am impressed with the difference.
I understand I am coming from a legacy system, and an old one at that, but there has been improvement, and that is what we judge this whole thing on.

Kinda like replacing my old clunker of a car with a shiny new one - of course the experience is better.

Windows 7 is a step forward from 5 Yr old XP.  So far it has been stable enough for me to give it a 'consumer' thumbs up.
Of course, I would like to not have to replace older hardware as well, printers scanners etc, but - hell, I got 5 yrs from em!.

FSX on the new system is like a new experience - Thumbs up.

I finally got this thing working correctly...

Lost all my data (...but that was more Sony's fault), half the hardware don't function anymore (...again, Sony and their lack of drivers for their own shit), and effectively forfeited the warranty for about 70% of this computer (...if there was ever a time for the Sony executives to bust out their Bushido suicide sword for failure, this would probably be the the time...)...

...but, windows 7 is more than worth it. Everything is running about twice as fast...

...and nothing's crashed in the past 24 hours

What about Vista vs 7?  I have a Vista computer, and am thinking about upgrading.  Is it worth it?  Vista on the surface has worked fine for me, but I haven't seen what its doing internally.  I was surprised that flight sim doesn't run much better on here than my old system (going from 3.0 P3 to AMD quad core).

I've been using Windows 7 since Friday  and have had quite a few teething problems, much the same as when I first had Vista. The difference is these "problems" were easily remedied via MS product support website, unlike the problems I had with Vista. One problem I had which left me scratching my head was not being able to update Windows. But this turned out to be an anti-virus software issue, not windows itself.
Bullguard AV (which came pre-installed on the new laptop) is an absolute pile of poo.. as soon as I uninstalled it & transferred my ESET Smart Security licence it updated no probs.
All in all I'm impressed.. at the moment.

No issues with vista what so ever, tried friends windows 7 whats the difference?? maybe I'll look into it more.
