Hi Fozz.

I'm enjoying the Messenger too, but why have you got a pilot and I haven't?

Something I said?

AlexanderDZ:  I have a RAR file on my desktop.  You know what to do but I on the other hand have never come across them & don't.  It's wonderful when you know how.   No amount of clicking did anything.   But I thought I'd already said that!   I downloaded WinRAR but it had no instructions about using it to open the RAR file.
I think that covers it.

Hi Terry,

You can have WinZip handle RAR files for you. You only need to set the file association for RAR files in WinZip. Like this:

Hope this helps ;)

... which is available for free at www.winzip.com. ;)

You just have to deal with the splashscreen everytime you start the program

Hi Harold. I believe the free trial WinZip has been limited to 30 days since version 8.0. You just get used to using it & the trial period expires. I don't see the sense in that unless you're prepared to purchase it. There are plenty of genuine freeware alternatives which work just as well & can also handle RAR format. One of these is ALZip which I have tested & can recommend. http://www.altools.com/ALTools/ALZip.aspx

None of these utilities should need any setting up or complex procedures for extracting the files. The easiest & quickest method for extracting compressed files in RAR or ZIP format is to use the right-click "Extract to ...." options. This will automatically extract the file to a folder with same name in the same location as the original file.

WinRAR

WinXP (& presumably Vista) includes its own extraction software which makes 3rd party utilities like WinZip unnecessary for extracting conventional ZIP files used for FS addons.

Note: I still use a registered version of WinZip 7.0 which someone purchased for me many years ago.

Very true Doug ... very true. I sometimes get stuck in what I have and need a refresher.
Though I mostly use WinRAR, I'll look into ALZip ... thanks for the heads up.

I use IZarc myself...

Seems to behave better than WinZip or WinRar...

Food for the thoughting...As Borat would say.
