Windows Vista 64-bit

Postby J. » Fri Jan 04, 2008 8:17 pm

hi, im on the verge of upgradeing my PC, but im wondering if its worth upgradeing to vista yet?
im looking at upgradeing up 4GB of ram within a month of getting the new build so gaming should not be too much of an issue

however my primary concern is general program compatability

one of my friends ran XP pro 64bit for a while and had massive problems with getting things to work on his OS, does vista 64bit suffer the same problems in software compatability? and would the hit on gaming be the same as it was with Vista 32-but

cheers
kermit.

I have the 64-bit version, and yes it can be a pain getting the correctly installers for certain software.  However, i was against Vista for a while but now i just find lots of little features that i like e.g the sidebar.  One other feature is the problem and solution centre, if something goes wrong e.g IE closes unexpectedly, then a box comes up telling you what caused the problem and a solution to fix, normally a link to the correct file/patch you need to install.

If you do have a install disc that does not work it sometimes gives you a link to the solution through the mentioned above :)

XP 64 bit is a crap system because it never got into mainstream use

Vista 64... dont have any problem with it (although some very old installers scream... that where i have a 2nd machine for).

Oh and IE7 stability on vista is still utter crap
