Ok I am your GW guru...sorta. Played it all since the first game. I have like 6 lvl 20 chars... I have beaten all of prophesies and factions and about half of Nightfall. Now even though each campaign is a different continent they all kind of connect in a way. If I had to buy just one it would prolly be Nightfall. Prophesies is cool but it lacks some of the atmosphere the others have. Factions I love the map, the asain themewith the slums etc and I really had a lot of fun with the new PVP gameplay types and the 2 warring sides you can join and play on but in the end the map felt a bit small. Nightfall is the same way has some cool, imaginative environments that pull you in and has a larger map and you don't feel so confined. One thing I like about GW so much more than WoW is it lets me imagine things a lot more, wow is just to cartoonish. GW is not the best thing on earth in the beginning,its when you start to get into the PVP areas and Elite PvE areas that make things a lot of fun. It has me addicted like crack, I have spent countless hours sitting there lookin at shit and I still play. Im hooked on it so be careful.

as much as i hate to say this, WOW is the best MMORPG, GW is good but its hard for a noob to get into, i have it and i do play it from time to time but i personaly find it hard to get truely stuck into. probably because ive never been in a guild.

would anyone be interested in starting one? if not a guild just to party up?

it has a nice story line and graphics though which is a +

personaly stick with FPS and RTS.... those FTW

Well, looks like I am going to resurrect another thread.  Heh.  I do that from time-to-time.

As for Guild Wars, I also happen to play.  Around the time my daughter was born, I took a couple months hiatus where I didn't log in very often.  However, I have played regularly since Prophecies and now am excited about Eye of the North.  It is a good way for me to unwind when I am not flying about in FS.

I have a guild (and we even have a website and forums that I, ahem, need to update) and we are part of a four guild alliance.  Participation waxes and wanes (seems to be about the norm for online communities), but our guild alone has about 1/2 dozen or so really active members and many others that show up once in a blue moon.  The main guild has about a dozen-and-a-half active members and there are a few members in each other the other two guilds that play regularly.

I really do enjoy Guild Wars, but I am afraid that some of the things they left out of the game have kind of hurt long-term participation.  Game play is beautiful and often challenging, but can be repetitive after awhile.  If only they had thought to let players craft items on their own, or build structures, or something of that nature, if could have really added a new life to the game.  One hopes to see these things when GW2 comes out (late 2008? mid 2009?).

Anyway, I love the game.  Great idea, still have lots to explore, and too many characters to count.  Despite it's limitations, it is great escapist fun for me, and I will keep playing it as long as the servers keep running.  Oh, and with no monthly fee, how can you go wrong?

That's why they featured PvP in Guild Wars. In PvP, you get to customize your weapons and clothes using enhancements based your best abilities. I haven't fought against other players just yet in PvP, but that's because I still have to brush up on my fire skills. ;)

PvP does have some interesting elements, but it is really quite daunting unless you are a dedicated PvP player. And it still does not make item access any easier for the dedicated PvE players (such as myself).

Imagine if a person could get a variety of supplies together to really fashion armor and weapons with custom and unique properties.  I know there are the various things you can attach to weapons, but there never has been a satisfactory way in which those items are distributed (unless you don't mind spending hours reading through trade spam looking for that one item you need and are willing to toss out seriously inflated amounts of platinum to buy it).

Meh.

I still love the game and really look forward to GW2.  More than raging rants, these are just some of the things I hope they improve upon to make GW2 even better.
