Does it have to be double the ram? I could try it and see, I run 2 gigs but my GPU takes 500 of that, so I should set the swap for 3 gigs?

EDIT: As far as I can tell I have a EXT3 and Swap partition and no others for linux, Am I supposed to have 3 or is that just a precaution?

It's been a while since I have done an Ubuntu install but 1.5 x your RAM should be fine.
