FS Installing Problem

Postby born_2_fly » Thu May 11, 2006 2:34 pm

Heya Guys.

Ive have just gone through so much trouble to get a new PC, and new FS2004 wont install! This would be my first installation of it, on a brand spanking new comp. The window opens up fine, and ok I click on Express Install (Same happens on custom) And ok, its does what it needs to do, until it comes to 'Detecting DirectX' After that it comes up with an error:

"The application failed to Initialize properly"
(0xc0000006)

2 of these boxes come up. So I click ok on both, and it proceeds to the general install screen, its stays on 0% for all of about 5 mins, before kindly telling me that my disk is full, or is in use (Yah right, 146GB free?) You'd be lucky. To boot I only got this computer delivered today! Its really annoying me, stuff like this really gets me down, i was really looking forward to a nice easy set up, and then have a go on FS. Sum first day this has been. Please help before I help my computer out of my window!

Are you logged in as Administrator?
If not try doing so that way.

That error usually means error message means that the user concerned doesn't have read access to some system file required by the application.

Im an Administrator, and DirextX is installed.
The only thing is, should it come up as a programme on the start menu, and in add/remove programmes? I cant remember if it did on my old system. Also how do I get onto the ATI Control Centre, to change setting like AA? I can seem to find it.

Cheers

Probibly because Dell used older drivers.

Go to www.ati.com and download the latest drivers AND Catalyst uninstaller. Uninstall your old drivers first, then install your new ones + CCC.

Ok new Drivers installed, and everything else updated. Im still not sure about DirectX I am positive that I 'intalled' it, but it doesnt seem to be mentioned anywhere on my computer. Should it be under the Programme List in Add/Remover Programmes?

Cheers

To see what version DirectX you have go to

Start
Run and enter "dxdiag"  (without quotes)

On the first page thatis displayed, towards the bottom it will show which version you have.

Excellent, Alex... ;D...!

You just have two more barriers to cross now.

The first is to always use the capital letter "I" when referring to yourself....
... As in; "I", or "I am", etc... ;)...!

The second problem with your Installation Problem...
...haven't got a clue, Mate...sorry... :'(...!

LOL...!

Cheers Alex... ;D...!

LOL, sorry Paul. *I* am a bit lazy when it comes to typing! And unfortuantly *I* am used to word processing programmes when the kind little gremlins in my computer kindly change it to an uppercase letter for me!
Anywho still no joy with the whole installing problem, Microsoft Emailed back and reccomended that I reinstall DX, which I did, but the programme included on the disk seems to do nothing atall. Oh well!

Cheers!

Alex...!

When you ran your "DX Diag" program, did you click each of the tabs at the top, which should tell you if you have any problems, or not, in each section, some of them you can do a test on, video/audio, etc, to check... ;)...!
