Multiple Monitors

How do I swet up two monitors for use in FS? I can use two normally with an extended desktop but I can't see how to use them in FS.

Well, I runFS in windowed mode. I use my second monitor for the GPS. After undocking the GPS window, I just drag it to the second monitor.

Sorry Freeman, don't mean to hijack your thread. Skittles, if I wanted to run four monitors from one pc, could I use two Y adapters connected to the video outputs on the video card. Would that setup be to hard on the computer.
I'm planning on having a pilot and co-pilot set up and want to run two monitors on each side. One for visual and one for gauges.

Hi GalacticEyes.  Unfortunately it doesn't work that way.  It would be nice if it did.....cheap.  To do that, first you need a video card that supports the multiple monitors.  Most of the really high end ones support two........ the Matrox brand has one that supports three.

If you want to go to more than three... the usual solution is to use FSUIPC with WideFS and WideView........ which allows you to run multiple PC's as "slaves" to one main machine running the sim...... and then they can each display whatever you want on the screen or screens attached to them.

Multiple monitors is not a cheap setup.  Wish it were.    My simpit will likely eventually utilize three for the "outside" windows display.  The glass cockpit monitors for the instruments (4 of) will be driven with four networked PC's.

Hi John, I agree with you regarding setting up a multimonitor system, it is expensive, but when you see it running it somehow outweighs the cost.  I currently run 3 x 17" TFT's on a three PC and 1 Laptop Network.  The results are great.  I use FSUIPC with WideFS and WideView, and after a wee bit of tweaking the results are kewl ( you tell me).  I've included a link to one Photo I took with my Digi camera flying over Hong Kong.  I hope you like it.

I don't see why not IF you plan on the pilots two monitors and the First Officers two monitors showing the exact same thing. As long as you have two video out plugs on your vidcard, you can multi-monitor. Splitting the signals shouldn't be a problem either. I've never done it, but I'm sure one can find a way.

From your computers view, there's only two monitors so it shouldn't have a dramatic impact.

Thats exactly what I'm wanting to do. The pilot will have a monitor with for visual and one for gauges. The co-pilot will have the same thing in front of him. I'm going to try it and see if it'll work. Don't see why not.

Aha..... sorry I didn't understand it as that kind of setup from my first reading of your post.  YES... that will work just fine.  It really should be the exact same type of monitors on the Y cords.  But likely it will work OK even if they are a bit different.  You'll need the same resolution and refresh rates though.
