Adding memory sticks

Hi all. My current pc has 2-2gb sticks of Kingston ram. I have 2 from my old computer, which are 1gb each. Can I add them to my pc, or do they have to be 2gb to match what is already installed? And if I can, would it be worthwhile? Would I notice much of a difference?  Thanks.  Rick

What are the specs for the 2GB & 1GB sticks.

I'M NOT SURE, BUT...
If you have 4 slots and the 2GB and 1GB are in alternate slots... the Motherboard should set the faster sticks to the same speed as the slower sticks. If you have a manual for your motherboard, check to see what it says. But my tech knowledge is old. Research it more or listen to somebody with more confidence in their advice... maybe I shouldn't say anything.

Hi. Well, as far as specs---I sure don't have a clue, other than they are  1 and 2 gb. The only numbers that make any sense to me is the 1gb sticks say 2.6v, and I can't remember the number, but the 2gb ones are different. Thanks

Your CPU and motherboard combination require 240 pin DDR3 sticks that operate at 1.65 volts or less. If the RAM meets those requirements, you can probably add it although be advised that all of the RAM will only operate at the speed of the slowest RAM. If you do, make sure the memory runs in dual-channel mode by putting matching pairs in memory slots 1 & 3 or 2 & 4...

Ok, well since the 1gb sticks say 2.6v, I guess it's a no-go. I also doubt that they are DDR3.  No big deal tho. I have no complaints on how this pc runs. Just figured to try to use these, rather than junk them.
