RAM (Over 3GIG's) 32bit and 64bit OS

Postby X.G.Aus » Sun Dec 12, 2010 8:13 am

Should be tagged as this is rather important.
As im reading all the post's here; im seeing a great number of people upgrading their RAM to say 4gig, or 6 gig (can even go higher)
Now; if you are running a 32bit operating system, Win7 WinXp Vista(whats the point of living if you have this :P), the MAX, your system will use is 3GIG, even if you attempt to change the Bios, it will only access the 3GIG.

64Bit Operating systems, change this, and have the ability to access over 246GIG or RAM, (From SD to DDR3 2000Mhz)
----
So please guys and girls; if your not willing to go to a 64Bit Operating System, dont even bother adding more then 3gig of RAM

More info can be found here

To be fair, I think most people are aware of this. The 'limit' for 32bit is about 3.5-3.75GB, but there are methods to increase this limit anyway. I can't remember exactly what it's called, but non-Windows operating systems are far easier to do it with, and you can have more memory from 32bit than the '4gb limit'.

Though, I have no idea why anyone would really want an excessive amount of memory (6-8GB) as a lot of programs simply cannot use more than 2GBs in total, each.

I keep reading things like this and it makes me think I'm wasting money on 8GB, but if I'm flying in FSX and I have it linked to G-plan and I'm running a few other FS related utilities, plus temp monitoring software and virtual drives etc, and all the crap MS has running that I can't shut down... I think I'd like to have 6-8GB just in case... no?
