RAM Question

Postby Ferrari308guy » Wed Nov 26, 2008 7:35 pm

Hello everyone,

I am looking to upgrade my motherboard to this one:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... CatId=2014

The RAM I currently have in my computer is DDR2 SDRAM, apparently, this motherboard takes something DDR2 RAM also, but it doesn't mention anything about SDRAM. If I just want to put my current RAM into my new motherboard, will it be compatible? I just want to be sure before I invest some money.

Also, do you need some sort of cooling system for your processor? My current computer has something covering the processor that looks like a filter or a cooling system. The webpage above didn't mention anything about cooling. Will I need something like this if I get a new motherboard?

Thanks, Ferrari

About the RAM.
DDR2 RAM is a shortened form of the correct name DDR2 SDRAM. They are one and the same. So yes your mobo is compatible.

I should have also mentioned that not all brands of memory modules are compatible with all motherboards. Very rarely there are compatibility issues between certain models of memory and mobos, especially for newer ones. But a bit of net research should help deal with any doubts.
