Sounds like you've made up your mind, but just in case: Most LCD monitors handle multiple resolutions, but your best bet is to get one with a "native resolution" that matches up with a resolution available with your version of MSFS!! Check first- there are zillions of web pages out there with such specs listed.
"Native" res. generally yields the best results overall.

I highly recommend Samsung as my monitor of Choice. i choose them more for quality than performance. I've gone through 6 Samsung monitors, and not one of them has had a dead pixel, firmware error, or cracked screen. and I do justice to these monitors. well deserved.

(and when i say I've gone through 6, i sell the old ones)

but thats me going on about hardware again. your 1600 x 1900 and yadda yadda yadda is the realm of Nick N. ;)

Any disadvantages to running a resolution that is not native to your monitor? Can it damage the monitor perhaps? For example I run 1600x1024 when simming on an old CRT who's native res is 800x600 I believe. (It won't even run 1600x1200... 1600x1024 is its max). Is this bad?

Any monitor (unless it is an antique) will run a selection of resolutions. Hence why you can change it. The only difference is that the graphics card has to generate more information for the increased number of pixels at higher resolution. You can't overclock a monitor graphically as it is designed only to operate at a set series of resolutions ;)
