FS9 hardware problems (Vista)

Postby lazydave » Sun Jun 17, 2007 10:39 am

OK I think this is the correct forum for this question.

I recently got a laptop with Window's Vista (the family version). Now the laptop is not anything special, but I figured it was new and would work well with Microsoft FLight Sim 2004. To my disappointment... I was wrong. I have several issues trying to run FS9 on my laptop.

Firstly, I can only run the flight simulator on full screen for it to work properly. If it is not run on full screen, I believe the simulator carries on but the picture does not move. I can here the sound alright but that is all. I can live playing FS9 full screen but if I could sort it out, I would be happy.

Also another issue is that during playing FS9, the aircraft appears to be a dull colour. A white aircraft flying during the day will apear to be a grey colour as if it was dark. It's hard to explain but if need be, I can take screen shots. Sometimes I can get the aircraft to be the normal white colour by adjusting the odd bar in the Display settings, but after I change a view (e.g. switching to Cockpit from Control tower), the dull colour will appear.

I am a complete computer n00b so I have no idea how to get details on my hardware etc etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  :)

What are your system specs???

You should know what your specs are, because you would need to know what your buying.
if you dont read the box. it will usualy start with something like, e.g. intel pentium 4/ AMD Athlon and the rest of the information will be written out underneath that

I figured a new laptop, running Vista would be able to cope with FS9. Obviosuly not

Can you try and return the laptop? Some laptops can be upgraded with a mobile video card, it however is not as simple as a PC or as easy to find. It does require opening the laptop and finding the coerrect ports etc though

Before you start spending money, make sure Vista has all the latest software updates, and especially make sure your video driver is updated to the latest version.

I'd say it's too late to return the laptop. I have just finished transferring all my old files across from the family PC afater about 3 months of transferring files using a small 1GB memory stick.

I will try updating all the laptop software and see if that helps.

Thanks for your help guys. Much appreciated.  :)
