Upgrading

Postby AgentJohnson » Tue Oct 31, 2006 10:45 pm

im lookin to upgrade my computer enough to play FSX. im thinkin about getting another gig of ram and am just wondering how much of an impact it would have on performance considering i only have 1 gig as it is.
my current sys specs are:
1gig of ram
ATI X800 256mb
Intel pentium 4 processor with HT at 2.6 ghz
80 gig western digital harddrive
currently running directx 9c

when i played the fsx demo i ended up having to turn everything down to low. so would 1 more gig of ram make a good impact?

Another gig of RAM will gain you mabe 2~3 more FPS and lower your loading times some. What you really need to be replacing are your CPU and GPU. The GPU you have is a bit too old to correctly render the game at its highest settings. Now a BIOS flash to a X800XT (as long as you have a Sapphire, Connect3D, or a few other, make of card) you can get a few more pixel pipelines and shaders. As for your CPU, its too slow  to keep up with all the information being sent to it at one time.

Basically yes, your system is too slow to really correctly play FSX.

Yes, I don't know why people place so much emphasis on RAM. Unless you have less than 1GB, a GPU or CPU upgrade will do so much more.
