Motherboard Mounting

Hey all, I was moving my computer earlier, and I noticed that the motherboard seemed a bit wobbly when I would plug things into it.  I opened it up and unplugged pretty much everything from my motherboard, only to find that it was practically floating in my case, held in only by various cables and the video card!  So, it seems I mounted it incorrectly the first time I did it, as all the mounting screws (I used spacers, oops ) broke.  Could someone enlighten me to the correct way to mount my motherboard, so I don't break anything else?  Thanks.

Screw the spacers onto your motherboard tray. Then set the motherboard onto the spacers, and use screws to screw through the motherboard into the spacer.

Thats how it goes.

Thats crazy! What kind of a computer doesn't have a motherboard mounted to the case?

The one I built. It was mounted to the case at one point, but somehow, all the plastic mounting hardware I used broke, don't ask me how, I have no idea.


Thanks for the replys guys.  I've seen those red fiber washers in MOBO mounting kits, what are those for, and should I use them?  Thanks again.

You had plastic spacers? Well theres the problem. You should only use metal ones. Do you have an acrylic case, cus as far as I know all cases come with brass spacers.

Some cases come with plastic ones, you just put the screws in carefully and screw them up snug, don't overtighten, or perhaps you didn't lock them into the case correctly.

The plastic spacers snap into the case in precut positions. You put the plastic mounts/spacers on the case first, then screw the board to the plastic mounts.
