Well ATi makes the Chip, however Sapphire, HIS Tech, connect3D and others are companys that make the boards, and put the finishing tutches on it. What you should look at is ATi directly, or Sapphire. Those are by far the two best that you can buy from.

If you have AGP click here
If you have PCI-Express click here

Also because you have an ATi card already is a basic plug and play, you may have to update your drivers, but you should be doing that anyway.

And to answer the last question: I dont think that G-Bu is doing a damn thing with the gpx industry. I know that the government uses Dell notebooks with ATi chips in them, but other than that I doubt that he even knows what a graphics card is.

I looked at the link provided for PCIe cards. It says I need a minimum of a 350W power supply. I don't know offhand what this machine has without opening the case and looking. I just got back from work and I'm too tired to fool with it right now.

And lastly, I don't want George Bush wasting his time fooling around with graphics cards. I want him cutting my taxes and killing islamo-fascist terrorists. Both are good for America...

I read the seven reviews of the X800GTO card. It seems everybody who bought it likes it. One guy says it runs all his hi-demand games excellently. I suppose it could run a five year-old flight sim to levels beyond belief. I like the price from newegg-- about half what I expected. I may order one soon.  Thanks for all your help, gentlemen.

Well you should have a 350W atleast (otherwise bestbuy would have told you) so your good to go. Just don't expect to do any overclocking with that.

Anyway have fun with your new card, and hope you are happy with your new screens.

I have never given any thought to overclocking. When I was younger, I had hotrod cars that were "overclocked" under the hood. I didn't know to what extent until the State Police pulled me over and told me. I don't overclock anything, anymore...

So now I'm thinking about getting a big hard drive for all my downloaded pron-- something on the order of a 300 Gb. Do these things come pre-formatted? If not, how do I do it? I'll be transferring all my good stuff from the 160 that came in the original machine to the 300 in an enclosure. Or maybe put the 300 in the case and take the OS and associated things I must have off the 160, put these things on the 300 and put the 160 in the enclosure. What would you do? I plan on downloading a lot more pron than I do games, add-ons, et cetera...

Wow, rootbeer loves him some porn 8) Anyway get a western digital ATA drive. To formatt it go to www.westerndigital.com and download their software. This will formatt your drive for you. Then from there just drag and drop into the new drive. However if I were you I would use the 300GB for games and pron only, leave everything else on the C: drive

If the US was like France, the world would have gone down the crapper a long time ago. The blood of our soldiers keeps it free and the rest of the world enjoys themselves under the nuclear umbrella for which I pay. Japan wouldn't be sending us so many TV sets, stereos and cars if they were paying for their own defense.

Back to my PC and why it takes almost three minutes to boot it up...

I now have a logfile of my machine courtesy of hijackthis. I can send it via email to anyone who thinks they have the guts to slog through it and figure out why there's so much of it there and what to do about it. I'm getting ready for work now, so I may not be able to send it until tomorrow.

I had prepared a post that I think now you would not have appreciated, congo, but I've spared it. I agree with you that Simviation is not the place for politics of any kind. My origainal question about George Bush dealing with video cards or whatever it was about was rhetorical. It was the illustration of absurdity by being absurd. I know GWB doesn't fool around with video cards. The question was posed as sarcasm, more or less. The media and everyone who seems to hate him just because he is protecting America from attackers (his job under our Constitution) seems to want to blame him for anything and everything.

The latest is gasoline prices. The President has nothing to do with gas prices. Gas prices are set by the market. But it seems that if the media can come up with a silly poll about the President and what's he doing or not doing about gas prices, they will trumpet it as if it were the Word of God. I'm tired of the drive-by media shooting their mouths off about something, creating a lot of confusion in the process, then leaving the scene of the crime, escaping any responsibility for what they've done.

I'm tired of this discussion. The question was rhetorical, a jab at Bush-haters and the media. It didn't require an answer of any sort.

I ask for technical help because I know very little about the workings of computers. You young guys grew up with them; you are far more literate and familiar with them than I am. I very much appreciate the answers supplied to my newbie questions. I have no one to ask where I live. I have always thought that those who knew computers were happy to impart knowledge to those who don't. That's been my experience.

Then let us go forward...

Just got my new printer today. Is there such a thing as an eight-foot or ten-foot USB cable?

OK; if there's one on one side of the world, there should be one here somewhere. I asked because I've never seen one longer than 4 or 5 feet. My set-up here is on a small table in a small room and the printer is about as far from the computer as it can possibly be. I'd like it closer, of course, but it just ain't workin' out like that.

Thanks for finding that so quickly.

Your welcome,

Just start a new thread next time, I think this one has been hijacked quite enough...

I'm all out of threads right now...

I've had this machine a year, now. I've probably got it so screwed-up I'll spend as much to straighten it out as to buy  a new one...

I'm gone.
