After I finished doing my little victory dance, I proceeded to transfer files between two computer for the first time ever!
Woo woo! 
This whole time, I never knew you needed a special crossover ethernet cable to connect two PCs. I've just been trying with a normal CAT5. Nevermore will I have to use a USB stick or an infernal CD-RW to transfer 50GB worth of information. 
Hallelujah! I love my PCs again. 
The only sour note, however, is I cannot use the internet and the connection at the same time; so I must disable one connectin in Network connections to do anything. But hey, at least it works!
