I think I might have found a way of making it smoother  ;D

IF you go to:
C:\Documents and Settings\kipman\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9
(replace kipman with your user account name)

you will find a file called: "fs9.CFG"

opening this file with note pad I found:
[MULTIPLAYER]
ALWAYS_SHOW_INITIAL_DIALOG=1
SESSION_NAME=My Session
PLAYER_NAME=Unnamed Pilot
GUARANTEED_MESSAGES=0
MAX_PLAYERS=8
MAX_OBSERVERS=0
TICKS_PER_SYNC=90
PACKETS_PER_SEC=4
COLLISION_SECS=2
FOLLOWING_MULTIPLIER=5
ALLOW_PLANE_MODEL_SEND=0
ALLOW_PLANE_MODEL_RECEIVE=0
ALLOW_TEXTURE_SEND=0
ALLOW_TEXTURE_RECEIVE=0
MAX_SEGMENT_SIZE=100
MAX_SEGMENTS_PER_SEC=1
CONNECTION_TYPE=0
PROTOCOL_SELECTION=0
ALLOW_DESCRIPTIVE_SEND=1
ALLOW_DESCRIPTIVE_RECEIVE=1
AUTOPILOT_LOCK=0
DISTANCE_DISPLAY=0
ADF_TRACK=0
ALLOW_NAME_TAG_DISPLAY=1
CLIENT_CONNECT_USE_CUSTOM_PORT=0
CLIENT_CONNECT_PORT=23456
CLIENT_HOST_USE_CUSTOM_PORT=0
CLIENT_HOST_PORT=23456
HOST_CONNECT_USE_CUSTOM_PORT=0
HOST_CONNECT_PORT=23456

The entires of interest are:
TICKS_PER_SYNC=90
PACKETS_PER_SEC=4
COLLISION_SECS=2
MAX_SEGMENT_SIZE=100
MAX_SEGMENTS_PER_SEC=1

I think increasing these values on both your computers will make the planes move more smoothly.  Although thy still won't allow you to see each other's engine effects and flaps.

Remeber to back up your fs9.cfg before editing.

  Thanks for taking the time to reseach those tweaks Kipman725... I will endevour to try them out just as soon as I get time for my next LAN meet...

  However, It's gonna be maybe a month before I can let you know whether or not your suggestion has made an impact or not cause I'm moving house this week and then I'll be in hospital for my new hip on Monday and expect to be in recovery mode for a while.

  But, rest assured, I will keep you posted. It's the least I can do for your advice...

  Cheers 'n' tables

Your system specs looks like the Dogs Danglies Charlottesdad... Wish I had a processor as fast as yours Dude....

It's nothing special Si, take a look at some other forum member's specs! The only reason i bought mine was the fact i got it for under half price (legally  ;) ) as a refurb.  It still doesn't cut the mustard with FS mind, but i'll be upgrading the graphics card on the 26th of this month so that should help.
Good luck with your move and have a speedy recovery,
Rob.
