all DVD players read MP2. well thats the DVD movie standard. so if you can find a program to convert to MPEG2 (MP2) then there ya go.

I find that some DVD players are of cheap quality, I went through THREE!!!!!!! before I got one that worked (the third did) the first two read disks, then quit, this was back in 2003 though, I had that DVD player for a year then I got a DVD VCR Combo (Apex) simply because my old one didnt read all codecs, if you have a Playstation 2 laying around just use that, they read everything I believe. I still have my old one, I gave it too my parents to use..... The trusty Apex I love that thing, Cheers, Gunny

EDIT: I got the APEX so I could listen too certain music types rather than video reasons, but my old dvd player was fairly limited to about 5 or 6 compatible formats, so if its older this could be the problem, also the endless loading, probably means the things fried, stick a music CD in, if it plays, should be good, if not, time to go DVD player shopping!

I'm going to go to Circuit City one of these days and get a big one, at least a 27-inch with a VCR and DVD player in it. Price is going to be about $450 out the door. I want it so I can play my downloaded videos in .wmv format. This is why I have to know exactly what kind of software I need to convert those .wmv files to something that will play on the DVD portion of this thing. I can burn them to regular audio CDs with the software in Windows XP Media Edition, but don't know if the nero that's also in it will do what I want. I doubt the TV will play .wmv files, too.

Dont get DVD/VCR TV combos, you'll kill yourself, They dont work the greatest (if for say the DVD player quits the whole unit is dead, or if the VCR quits, your screwed) Combos are the worst things (TV combos I mean) DVD/VHS ones like mine are good, get an Apex DVD/VHS or similiar, Mine is my CD player for my stereo (Too lazy too get a job and buy a $150 cd player for it) provides me Surround sound (through the VCR) for VHS and DVDs then I can hook my cable up with load sound (again through the VCR) even on my ancient beast of a stereo (prolly around 30 years old I got it from a basement) so DVD/VHS combos are really good on the money department if you have a stereo..... sorry for rambling off topic! I've yet too find a format it wont play.... (it even reads data cds) Cheers, Gunny

My dad has an RCA DVD/VCR TV and it's been good except the audio on channels 7,8 and 9 took a dump. Sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not. I first need to figure out how to put .wmv files onto a DVD and play 'em in a DVD player hooked to a TV or preferably, in a TV with a DVD player incorporated.

Is there some site on the web that I can go to and ask techological questions about computers, et cetera and not get flamed for being a noob? I was on one board for 2-1/2 years but got kicked off for savagely, brutally, mercillesly ripping a Canadian liberal. Now I have nobody of whom I can ask questions about these things. Any suggestions?

The only way I know of is too use a Mac, I had too do this for a movie project in school, you take the video file, put it on a Video camera, then Stick it on a mac movie maker, Burn it onto a DVD and whalla, the computer guy at school did this for me, its the only way I know how too do the sort of thing, I spent like 2 weeks trying and found no way, I stayed up all night trying to get it done, wasted 5 DVDs! Cheers, Gunny

EDIT: I HATE Macs too, so unless you can find another way, I'd love too know how to do it!

I searched ".wmv file to DVD" and found a site that offers a software to do exactly what I want. It will take virtually any format and convert to virtually any other format. More investigation will ensue...

www.deskshare.com/dmc.aspx Digital Media Converter, v2.63

How do I get back a missing cursor? My dad's XP machine somehow lost its cursor when making/saving emails. I've never heard of such a thing...

OK, I'll send that info to my dad. What caused it, so we can avoid it in the future?

My dad was trying to get my mom to type her first email. She's 82, got frustrated and threw up her hands with it. My dad took over and when he saves, he always clicks on the red X in the upper righthand corner. I thought this automatically closes you out, but he says it always asks if you want to save, so he uses that. I always use Send or Save to Draft. Anyway, when he tried to add more to the email in question, the cursor was gone. Hence, we are trying to solve the problem in this fahion.

Now I have what I think is a new problem. I got this annoying, blinking little icon in my system tray (that little collection of icons at the lower right of the screen?) informing me that a new version of Real Player is just dieing to get into my computer and would I please install it right away. To get rid of it, I do so. Now all my .wmv files are shown as Real files. I had the wma multi-colored circle; now I have a gray box with the word "real!" in it beside the file in the My Documents folder. I do not like this. My cheeky videos still play, but now I am back at Square One in determining their format for transfer to DVD at some date in the future. How do I get my WMA files back?

I solved it. I clicked on WMP in the desktop and got to a screen a few clicks away that asked me which player I wanted as my default player. I clicked WMP and then Apply. I then went to My Documents to see my files become wmv files as I watched. I know what Windows Media Player is and I'm comfortable with it. I have no use for RealPlayer. As far as I'm concerned, it might as well be that herky-jerky quicktime crap.
