Slowing down the joystick "Slew" rate...?

Postby Fozzer » Thu Mar 09, 2006 2:32 pm

Hello Lads..!

Does anyone know how to slow down the "Slew" rate (using the "Y" key) to a walking pace to allow gradual movements when maneuvering objects whilst on the ground, etc...?
My particular problem arises when trying to position objects in the "EZ-Scenery" design program.
The slightest movement of the joystick in Slew Mode transports me instantly into outer space... :o...!
The only likely place I can find is the "Devices" notepad in the FS 2004 main folder where a number of different joysticks are listed, giving certain movement parameters.
My joystick is the Logitech Wingman Force 3D, and this is the nearest entry I can find...>>>

[Logitech WingMan]
AXIS_EVENT_00=AXIS_AILERONS_SET
AXIS_SCALE_00=64
AXIS_NULL_00=36
AXIS_EVENT_01=AXIS_ELEVATOR_SET
AXIS_SCALE_01=64
AXIS_NULL_01=36
AXIS_EVENT_02=AXIS_THROTTLE_SET
AXIS_SCALE_02=127
AXIS_NULL_02=1
AXIS_EVENT_03=AXIS_RUDDER_SET
AXIS_SCALE_03=64
AXIS_NULL_03=36
BUTTON_DOWN_EVENT_00=BRAKES
BUTTON_DOWN_REPEAT_00=1
BUTTON_DOWN_EVENT_01=VIEW_MODE

[Logitech WingMan SLEW]
AXIS_EVENT_00=AXIS_SLEW_SIDEWAYS_SET
AXIS_SCALE_00=100
AXIS_NULL_00=36
AXIS_EVENT_01=AXIS_SLEW_AHEAD_SET
AXIS_SCALE_01=100
AXIS_NULL_01=36
AXIS_EVENT_03=AXIS_SLEW_HEADING_SET
AXIS_SCALE_03=100
AXIS_NULL_03=36
BUTTON_DOWN_EVENT_00=SLEW_RESET
BUTTON_DOWN_EVENT_01=SLEW_FREEZE

Does this look like the place to alter some of the entries to achieve  the desired effect...?

Many thanks for any ideas... ;)...!

Paul...I need a slower slew...much slower!... ;)... ;D...!

hi paul hope your keeping warm and well ;)

try this.
go to your FS9 cfg file.back it up... Then open the cfg file with Notepad. About one third of the way down the page are the following entries under the SLEW heading.....

MaxLateralRate=40000.000000
MaxVerticalRate=1000.000000
MaxPitchRate=360.000000
MaxBankRate=360.000000
MaxHeadingRate=360.000000

Change the MaxLateralRate value to 16000.000000
Change the MaxHeadingRate value to 40.000000

this should slow the blighter down..if it ain't slow enough try downing it some more ;D

Hi Lemon...me ol' Mate...;D...!
Warm and well I am...;)...!

You are my Saviour, as usual...!
These entries did the job admirably and made the slew rate much more manageable for positioning objects...;D...!

[SLEW]
MaxLateralRate=200.000000//40000.000000
MaxVerticalRate=1000.000000
MaxPitchRate=360.000000
MaxBankRate=360.000000
MaxHeadingRate=150.000000//360.000000

Many thanks for the response...;)...!

Take care...!

i was going to suggest that. but beware. in order to stop it from moving, either turn of slew, or turn off num lock and press 5.

Thanks Luke, for the reminder....I forgot about the keys for this application... ;)...!

Tapping the keypad arrow keys does make the movement more "progressive", and key "5" stops all movement altogether.

Thanks both...;)...!

Hi Lads, Lad-o's and Lad-esses..!

Lemoncat's recommendations, and therefore my mods to the fs9.cfg file, is an excellent example of making the "Slew" mode in the "EZ-Scenery" designer program much easier to use to position objects with more accuracy...  ;D...!

Cheers all... ;)...!

Makes an excellent addition to LAGO's FSE scenery designer...
