Wide price range. If it were me, I'd go for something like THIS for $439.

CTJoyce will tell you that the two best cards out on the market are between $150-300

nVidia 6600GT or the nVidia 7800GT.

well the most expensive card i've ever gotten was (and is) an AI Radeon X1300, but thats more of a media card rather then a gaming card.

hands down a 6600GT. trust me when i say it's well worth it, i've tried, and i want.

First off if you have AGP get the 7800GS if you have PCI-E get the 7800GT. The GF6 cards are now getting dated, and a 7800GS AGP or 7800GT can be gotten for quite a good price. The 7800GTX is over priced, and the Radeon cards just can't keep up. Wait till the new 7900 cards come out and get a 7800 card, the 7900's should come out at the end of this month along with the 7600 and 7200

Well as I havent seen anything lately to say that the new gen cards are being released, I would say AGP go the 7800GS and PCI-E go 7800GT (The GTX just cant justify the price) or the X1800GL (will outbench the 7800 but is about $50 more)

Anyway as for companys go ATi, Sapphire, eVGA, Leadtech. Any are excellent companys.

go read andtech, they have a big article on it. Also a few other compaines to trust; MSI, Prolink, and Aopen. I have had good experince with these brands. I still have fond memories of my Prolink Pixelview 5900XT Limited Golden edition

My problems with those companys is that Prolink and Aopen are low end, and I have never been able to unlock Pixel Pipelines with MSI cards.

Sapphire I know for a fact dosn't as I recently flashed my X800Pro to an X800XL for the extra 4, and all are working fine. Not to mention the extra pixel processing units. Also if I remember a ATi article I read awhile ago, Sapphire makes the ATi brand cards.

I recently picked up an X850XT AGP on sale for $200 (including $50 rebate) at Microcenter. Excellent card! Even without the sale, I'd recommend it.

it is, but the games today use HDR and the x800 cards dont support HDR with limited DX9B support. DX9C is where its at.

Check your info again, as my X800XL runs DX9c just fine, and I believe HDR also. However bang for buck go with a eVGA 7800GT

You should look at your card agian, its DX9B it runs DX9C fine, but HDR and a few other things arn't there, namly PS3.0. In anygame using PS3 and thats not FS9, the ones that do are HL2, COD2, Far Cry 1.3, fear, and AOE III that I know of, pull up the console and check your PS version it will say 2.0 which means DX9 a or b, and the x800 line uses b. Source has a fake HDR rendering affect on HL2 and Lost Coast but copare that to true HDR and you will get a shock. ATI didn't impliment DC9c feature set till the X1800 line while Nvidia did with the GF6 line. Thats also why Nvida cards took a hit in new games where the ATI X800 line doesnt, it uses a dated DX while GF6 from 6200TC-6800UE use PS3, and this takes a hit on preformance. It was a massive debate in 2004.
