Radeon X700. You opinion wanted.

Postby faztech » Thu Mar 02, 2006 8:58 pm

Guys,

I'm planning to buy ATI Radeon X700 256MB AGP today. I'm planning to sim PMDG 737NG, with default scenery, and couple of addons (fs2crew & fspax), and graphics settings at least slightly above average performance.

Sys spec:
Pentium 4 2.4GHz
1GB RAM DDR

Question:

1. Is this card will give me good first impression in term of graphical quality in fs9 when installed?

2. How far will it take the video settings in fs9?

Thanx for your priceless opinion. I'm impatient to get it today.

Well the X700 isnt the best of cards, I would have gone for a X800GTO, however for what you want it to do you should expirence 15~20FPS on max settings.

Cheers

Well, budget is my biggest hurdle, but I want performance at the same time. So I think I want something that compesates with budget and performance.

15-25 fps (max sliders) with PMDG and couple of addons, is cool for me  ;D

thanx for yr opinion...

I have the X700 Pro in my rig. Plays DVDs like real life. I think that's about the standard for whatever you'd be looking at, correct? I don't do the FPS games, so I can't comment. For $200 plus any tax, I think it's a good card. The next one up is almost double the price. Choose wisely...

Yes X700 is the 'base' reference I'm looking for. If budget permits, I'd go for X700 pro. You know, in my country currency exchange rate could kill me.

Btw, X700 and X700 Pro do they have SIGNIFICANT difference?

I'm not talking about going to the max here, but just something that is not stutering when flying PMDG.

The X700 is junk, don't waste your money and be stuck with bad graphics for the next 2 years, save your money and shop carefully, there are great cards out there if you have the patience and persistance to seek them out.

well the X700 isn't that bad of an option for current gaming, granted its slower than a 6600 vanilla but it still does ok. Though I would save up for a 7800GS the last AGP card and the fastest

Congo I personally want to thank you for jumping in here.

But seriously dude. X700 is crud. The only reason you would ever want one is if you only play FS once in awhile, and do normal computing stuff the rest of the time.

Or if your on a budget, i follow the Video card market and if your die hard ATI and want a value AGP for under 200 you have to get X700 or X700 Pro, it sucks but its your only choice. Would I buy one, nope, I can get an old 6200 with the NV43 and unlock it to 6600 vanillia, and i know this cause the local shop ordered alot of 6200 AGP cards when they came out and have alot of back stock all with NV43 cores.

I've got the X850 Pro AGP 256MB GDDR3, and I love it.  Runs flight sim 9 at maximum graphics for me at 40 fps.  Amazing card, I would go for it.

Viper your system has a huge bottol neck BTW. You need atleast one gig of system RAM, and to update your processer. That will bring you to the 70+ FPS that card should be getting you. Heck you can get 40FPS with a 6600GT

Now I ask you, why do you always say upgrade. Most issues with FSP are easy to fix. It's most likly not his CPU or ram. FS9 was made to run on systems alot slower and it was made to run all out on the 9800xt/5950 generation when most gamers still used 512mb and 1gb was considered what 2gb is today. It say's FS2004 but it was made in 2002/2003 and was made for that Generation. That also means that Generation of Hardware. I would recomend you viper to clear your temp file cache, run adaware and spybot. Also check for viruses and then close all programs like instant messengers or any p2p software. You should notice a nice Jump. Ram and CPU help but are not neccesary for FS9 to run at max, unless you want to run at 16x12.
