Saitek X45 assignment question?

I got my Saitek X45 today, It is a bit different than all the joysticks I have had before, but I think I am really gonna like it once I get used to it. Now on to the question?

My FSNav opens with the F9 key, I was just wondering if there is a way to assign it to a button on the X45?

Not sure, since I don't run FSNav, but I suppose you could try it.  Worst thing that happens is it doesn't work.  

You'd have to look in the files for FSNav and see where the key assignment is...

If you cant assign the button using FS2004 key assignments, then try this:
Your Saitek X-45 should have come with a SST software disk (cd-rom).  That software is profiling software that you can use to assign functions to certain buttons.  You can assign several keystrokes (macros) to one button.  The software is easy to use, even for a novice, so dont worry.
Once you install the software, there will be a small X-45 icon in your system tray.  Right click on it, and select Create Profile.  That will bring up a picture of the joystick on the left, and a list of buttons on the right.  Just click on the button, then hit the key or keys you want the button to "do", and then click on the green check mark.  Save your profile and you are done.  To use the profile, go to the icon in the tray, right click, and your profiles that are saved will be listed above the profile editor tab.

I will try and check this later to see if you got it down, or if you need more ideas.  The Saitek web forums are a good place to get help also.

No problem Fly In.  I have been using the X-45 for over a year now.  I dont know how I got along without it.  I actually bought a new one recently instead of going with the new X-52.  I like that the 45 has the rudder control on the throttle.  I dont like that the X-52 has the "twist stick" style rudder control.  

I dont know if I can help you with much else with the X-45, but just post if you have more questions and I will try to help.

I assigned all my keys via fs9 assing, but what I want to know is if you can mix using these assigns and at the same time use some from the profiler.     thanx

I would like the X-45 also for all of my side stick aircraft and fighters.  But, for civil planes and heavy metal once you get used to a CH yoke and rudder pedal combo you never go back.  The clamps on my CH yoke are now stripped out but all I need to do is send it to CH.  They will renew them and ship it back in like 4 weeks and no charge even though the warrenty is long expired.  I like how they stand behind their products, they are great and the new ch quadrent will soon be added.

It was a tough choice between the Yoke and the X45, but for the price I got the X45 for, I couldnt hardly pass it up.......Clamps are a weak point of the Yokes, along with other things I have heard about, but almost everyone I know who uses an X45 really likes them...me included..

That mode select would be very handy for me.  Currently I am using my yoke, a thrustmaster afterburner stick and throttle combo and the pedals of course.  I use the thrustmaster throttle and have the buttons on the throttle assigned to prop and mix functions and the buttons on the stick control spoiler,  gear, and flaps.  But, unless i change assignements I don't use the thrustmaster stick for control in stick controlled planes.  Instead, I use my old sidewinder precision pro so I don't have to mess with my assignments.  But, that 3 mode feature would be good because then I could use the X-45 for controlling flight surfaces and throttle and so on and the yoke, and then in stick planes, I could have a different mode assignment and use the stick without messing with re-assigning or using another stick.  I know when I look at the X-45 at Circuit City or Best Buy I like the rotary knobs on it.  I am sure they would be handy for prop and mix control.

The rotary knobs are pretty handy.  I didn't assign them in game, but found out that FS9 automatically saw them.  One is rudder trim, and the other is pitch trim.  Kinda nice.  I couldn't figure out why I kept yawing to the right in every dang plane or chopper I was in.  Then on a whim, I turned the knob, found out it was off center(to the right), and realized the game already "saw" the rotaries.  Then I felt like a moron for overlooking something that simple, but that passed.  ;)

I had the rotaries working too on fs9, but had to reistall everything including x45, and now the rotaries Trims have disappeared.
Any gueses of how to get them back?          thanx

i too have just puchased a new X-45 and i am using the default profile for fs2004 that was on the CD. But Half the button assignments don't do anything. is there anyone willing to share their custom profile. this may help give me ideas for design one of my own. i wolud like to use the rotory switch 1 for rudder trim but i have read the manual but iam still have no idea how to set it up. any advice would be grateful.

The two rotaries are assigned automatically when you first install x45.

The top one is for rudder trim.

Go to fs9 menu Options, Controls and Assignements and click on the "Joystic Axis" tab.

Scloll to the bottom and you will se Rudder Axis is assigned to Rotary 2.

I lost this function & when I clicked there on the "reset defaults" I got it back.

What more, I drilled a mm hole on the top (at detend)
and put a short pin in for easyer operation of trim.

I could not get my head round the Profiler. I used the fs9 assignements.

My assignements are posted in a previous X45 thread a few pages back. It has a large picture with the key numbers too.
