please read.... streaky display

hi guys, might be the correct forum to post in but it might be a moitor issue or a graphics card issue.

my display has suddenly gone streaky! its like its been 'dragged and left marks behind. going from right to left every major block of txt and pictures etc has a streak.... like when you add 'wind' effect to a photo...

am i talking babble and need to explian better or do you get what i mean.

running winxp and have a old nvidia tnt pro gfx card. most up to date drivers. dont know name of what monitor. just started happening.... ni major changes caused it.

A screenshot of this would be nice, also if you take a screenshot and we cannot see the blurring it tells us your monitor is broken.

Could be you have accidently adjusted the Hz your display is running at.  If you set it at somthing your monitor cannot handle you get the kind of blurring effect you are on about.  Goto your display properties control panel. Click on Settings then the advanced button.  Click on the Monitor tab.  Try lowering the Hz a bit and see if that helps.  Maybe when you installed the latest drivers it altered this  ???

Old TNT32 card? you prob dont want to be running the latest drivers either.  I wouldn't use any higher than the 5*.** drivers for the tnt's and even thats prob too high.

Just a thought......

Unplug both ends of your video card/monitor cable... and replug therm in.  SOmetimes a bad connection can cause this effect...... if I am understanding it correctly.

Also... did you recently install a new monitor cable?  A bad cable can do this too.  Or is it possible that something got set on top of your cable and damaged it?

the HZ are at there lowest.... reverting back to old drivers.... can anyone tell me where i can get a freeware program for taking screenshots please. thanx

BTW,do you have a LCD monitor,or a CRT?
(LCDs are known for the streaking effect that you're describing,because of  their generally slow refresh times)

TFT's get ghosting/streaking but only when playing games and usually when V-sync is turned off.  Most of todays TFT's are pretty good and have faster response times so things are better.

Also a TFT should not ghost/streak at all when just sat at desktop.  If anything a TFT is usually ever so slightly crisper when looking at your dektop.

To take a screenshot just have your desktop up.  Hit the 'Print Screen' button.  now open up MS paint and then choose 'Edit' meny and then 'paste as new image'

A picture of your desktop will then appear in the window.  Save this picture preferably as a Jpg file as they are smaller.
