256MB Graphics Card

Postby Redwing » Fri May 16, 2003 12:44 pm

Just read on the Rage 3D site (May 14) about Visiontek announcing the availability of the XTASY 9800Pro 256MB 3D graphics accelerator......the first consumer graphics card to feature 256MB of DDR memory. Just when I was debating between the 9800Pro or GF4-4600Ti for my new system.....and wondering whether any of these higher end cards would even make that much of a difference with FS2k2 or any of my other older games!? ???

It depends on the Ram bus speed. Sometimes 64mb cards are better than 128mb because they have faster ram. Think of it as a library. A huge one has all kinds of books but still has a card cataloge, a smaller one as lots of books too but has a fast computerized location system. Which one are you going to go to?

if you want a high speed graphics card, buy a 9800pro ( wait for benchmark results to see ,if the 256mb-version is better). if you want a good mix between price and performance, buy a 9700pro. i don't recommend a GeForce FX for various reasons. and the GF4 TI is much too old.

Vote 1 for an "old" TI 4200 which runs fs2002 as fast as I need. It was a third of the price of a new ATI card as well.

depends on what you want to play, for FS,a Ti4200 is sufficient, but for games like Unreal 2, you need a stronger graphics card (like an ATI 9700pro...lol!).
