dx9.0a help

Postby dave3 » Fri Apr 11, 2003 8:25 pm

???Hi! I'm hoping someone can help me out with this...I've been trying to go from Direct x 8 to the new dx9.0a...when I download the file from MS everything goes well..the download and install...however when it's time to reboot my computer the windows ME screen comes up and STAYS up! It's not locked up...I can hear the hard drive working...in fact it will run non-stop  until I hit ESC...reboot and do a system restore...any ideas?  Thanks!

Hmm. Microsoft has the new end user version, DX 9.0b. I just got it and all is well. Had 9.0a and that worked fine too. I also have ME so it will probably be something else besides the operating system.

Try a system restore to before you put in DX 9.0a and see if it clears it up. Then, before you get the newer version of DX, check to make sure you have the latest drivers for your graphics card that are compatible with the newer version of DX. Might also check for the latest drivers for you sound card. Both can rely on having compatible drivers for DX.

After that, then go get DX 9.0b.

Now if System Restore didn't help, boot up in safe mode and see if you can do anything that way. Surely one of the two methods will get you back up so you can update your drivers.

Good Luck.
