To patch, or not to patch?

The latest Air Battle game from Microsoft! Running on an entirely new platform, CFS3 is raising it's fair share of problems & opinions - Good & Bad!

To patch, or not to patch?

Postby HawkerTempest5 » Mon Dec 01, 2003 3:38 pm

Sorry if this has been answered before but it's been about a year since I last looked in this forum!
OK, I've done the upgrade and CFS3 is up and running with sliders at 4 (aircraft and clouds at 5) and it runs OK. OK but not great. Now, does the NO CD patch help make it run any better? When I first installed CFS3 a year ago, most people thought that it helped, but as I said, It's been lurking in it's box since then.
Your opinions would be welcome :)

Put the cloud sliders back down to one. The still look good and it saves the frame rates no end.

I noticed no difference in FPS with the patch. But it does some good but creates a couple of bugs its self. E.g. enables a plane to shoot at you when the pilot has bailed out etc. (no kidding I was shot down when I flew past a plane I shot down once).

But yeah, drop the cloud detail and it should see you fine. ;)

Thanks for that info Woody pal, I'll leave the patch out for now and give your suggestion a go ;D

Tempest old bean. Try the No-CD patch immediately if not sooner.......!
Back up the original EXE first so you can revert if necessary. I suspect this could well fix your problem with CFS2.

Tempest. You forgot to mention that installing the patch also fixed your problem with CFS2. Sounds like a result to me. Have fun. :D

I had a persistent terrain far scene rendering problem despite the patches and a new 9700P graphics card.  No setting helped even though the sim ran smoothly.
Finally uninstalled and reinstalled plus patches.  Now is the way it should be.  Both good render and smooth.

Glad to see some progress with this sim, alas, myself and friends (with a real mix of various cpu's & cards....) are still getting stutters, especially at low altitude. :(

Keeping on twiddling...... And getting damn sick of it!

CFS2 just gets better thankfully!

After my upgrade, I had CFS3 working and CFS2 crashing, before my upgrade it was the other way round. Nice Mr. Hagar helped with a few tips that have CFS2 up and running, but it still acts up every now and then and this is a real shame because CFS2 is just the best sim I ever brought.
I enjoy CFS3, flying low in a Typhoon loaded with bombs and rockets and blasting everything in sight, but it's just not CFS2.

Ah well, CFS2 runs like a dream so all isn't lost! :)
