adding planes-froth with danger

Postby KB_EXPRESS » Sun Oct 05, 2003 10:55 am

Following advice given at this site to ignor instructions on adding AC, I manually added AC- didn't work. Following the instuctios and extracting to the aircraft file, AC were listed and worked except for the P 40. [3us_p40f_10].
Anyone else have a problem installing this AC

Hmmm, First off you shouldnt need all the nationality kits. Dont worry about that. In fact technically you dont need any nationality kits, though if you dont have at least NEK part 1, then your 'other' nation aircraft (USN, CAN etc) show up as British by default. So I've found anyway. If you want to get the whole lot then its a great add-on with a whole lot of work in it but they arent all necessary. Secondly, I'd always advise just opening the zips into a folder on your desktop and just  copy/pasting the files manually to where they need to be. I'm not critiscising anybody but some wont always necessarilly 'extract to' the exact folder you want it to. The only way to be sure is to open it to a folder on your desktop and see whats what. Always read the readme or install instructions which are hopefully included in the zip. You've probably done all that already and I'm just going over obvious stuff but other than that I cant really explain how some aircraft may show up and others not. I cant say I've had any problems when I've done the above....Hope that helps somebody at least.

Being this new to CFS I'm sure it's "pilot error". Have it strightened out now except the P40 which shuts down the game when selected [and one more plane]. Have removed a couple of times to re-install both ways. Any idea ?
I think the extras are great, like the ships, and would like to get an idea of what to do with one after dL. Are they for making a mission or can you apply them in the game?
 Lots to learn!

You don't have to do anything to get the AI to fly non-default aircraft in the campaigns.  I would assume that its the same for ships, vehichles, etc.

Most odd about your p-40....i just downloaded and installed it again, even though I already had it, just to check it works, and it seems fine for me. Only other thing i can suggest is to try contacting Avhistorys site, let them know your problem with a list of your system specs. Maybe they might have some idea as to the cause of it crashing your system. Luck.

Rats! Thought I had it. Removed the P40 and re-installed. The ac poped up but when I choose the armament CfS shut down. I'm guessing I'm messing up with the files some how. I think I'm on the right track, anyway. Thanks :P

Actually, the one AC shuts down if I choose rockets. Do I need to know what is the norm with a particular AC? On the other hand, the P40 is any armament.

macstu23,
These are all recent downloads but I'll check. This may be way off, but I thought if the pylon file was messed up        [ from what I understand the weapons are attached to the pylons?] chosing a weapon with no place to go would freak something out. Does that sound right? Anyway, checking for an update...well.... now that I think of it, it works for you so it must be something I'm doing or my file got messed up [twice?]
If you think of anything, let me know- I certainly appreciate your help. ;D

Failing all the above...it might be worth considering a re-install. I know its a bitch, especially when you've spent all that time installing aircraft, but it might be worthwhile. I suspect what may be the case is that you've got some rougue file in the wrong place somewhere causing your CFS3 some confusion. Did you say your p-40 can carry any armament ? Mines only gives me bombs as a payload, no rockets. If you do think a re-install might be worth the effort, just make sure that once you've un-installed the game, delete everything that may still be remaining in the CFS3 folder. Thats the only way of making sure theres nothing hanging around where it shouldnt be. I do hope it doesnt come down to that, but it may be worth thinking about if all else fails. Those AC files are pretty well playtested before becoming available for download, unless otherwise stated, and they really shouldnt be causing your game to crash. If after all that, you still have troubles with certain AC, then I'd let the AC designers know. Best of luck.

Well, I uninstalled & reinstalled- was a little surprised that I had to manually delete the CFS 3 file that remained- same thing. The P 40 will load clean and with at least one bomb load [ single 40#, or somethig] but tried a couple other choices and crash to desktop. If I can find another P40 I'll try it but this one is going to moth balls. I really like the Devastator with the rear gun. I'm glad I saved the AC zips- at least I won"t have to dl everything. I know I've got one more that did this, just forgot which one. Oh well- onward and upward.

According to AvHistory, if dling the updated gunweaponspack didn't work you're supposed to run the Aircraft_Checker to check the AC and repair. A few people don't seem to be able to install it, including me. If you have that loaded, I'd like to know how to install it, please. The last I heard from them was to move the exe file to ** and when I asked which exe file , there are more than one, they must have gotten busy.
