Microsoft Flight Simulator 2019 announced !!

Postby Daube » Sun Jun 09, 2019 7:13 pm

As unbelievable as it sounds, it seems a new flightsim from Microsoft is on its way...
Planned both for PCs and XBox.
The graphics are simply amazing, but nobody has any concrete information yet.

PS: it seems the video embed doesn't work, so here's the link to the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReDDgFfWlS4

WOW! Thanks for that awesome update! The trailer was amazing on my 4k curved monitor! My mouth fell open! I had to watch it twice! I hope VR is supported and all of my payware will work! Of course I just switched from being a devoted, long time (bought it the fist day it came out) FSX user to P3D V4 a few months ago! Oh well wadddya gonna do! Thanks again for the HUGE news for the flight sim community!

Well if this one doesn't flop... then this indeed is exciting news.  Looks stunning. Naturally, a myriad of questions follows like is this going to use cloud based scenery and do we have to be constantly online and have a fast connection? Will this platform cater to dx11 users? I wonder

Remember video trailers always looked better that the reality. But it looks great.
1 question.

Wonder about addons? Open source so ordinary users can create?

Interesting source of info

https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threa ... ft.445504/

And MS have opened an insider program sign up and there is more info

https://fsi.microsoftstudios.com/

The success of the Microsoft FS series was due to it's addon-ability and that we users could create and add files created by others.
They forgot about that with MSFlight.

I get the hint watching the trailer and reading various websites they may have bypassed this aspect.
Early days and very little info so far but …….

I would be surprised if add-ons from current FS's would work, but I wouldn't hold my breath. I don't know if there's enough info yet. But, hopefully, MS will have learned from the "rolled up newspaper to the nose" experience of MS Flight, that third party add-ons was one of the keys to the success of the MS simulator franchise to begin with. But at the same time, their emphasis seems to be Xbox. Maybe I missed something besides the hopeful speculation?

It seems that the sim will use a different engine, as FSX is licensed to DTG, & the pro/commercial version to LM.
I doubt very much if Microsoft will use an extremely dated sim engine for a new game.

in any case, all the current addons, IF compatible, will obviously NOT be optimed for a new sim.. So, take it as a no.

Ok, so, after a bit of sleuthing, & registering on Xbox insider, the new sim will probably be available from Xbox Games Pass!
