Aye, half your life ago -- currently, 'twas your Middle Ages...
but I was speaking of it as an era past, rather a special, lively time at simv; many have left these forums since then. By the way, do you have any straight jackets left -- or are they all right?

I'm glad to see "old" members returning. I'm finally in a position to start getting back into flightsim... 4 grandkids later (dear Lord, have I REALLY been gone that long?)

Heck, I'm going to have to starting trolling this forum to figure out how to reinstall FSX/etc!

Hi Charles
Could you help with this question, the attached picture is from the Vietnam War Project http://vietnamwar.project.free.fr/index.html

I've looked on the web for a while but can find no information about a Shackleton used in the war. I know that British personal were in the area but only in an advisory capacity. So is this shot poetic licence or were the RAF using Cam Ranh AFB as a stop off point for other operations.

Cheers

planecanadian wrote:...Now, to the second part. Castor oil was a perfect solution to the unique propulsion provided by the rotary engines favoured by many WWI aircraft. It didn't break down, and the thin walls of the rotary engine's cylinders were prone to distortion - so a lubricant needed to be exceptional and to reduce friction as much as possible. In simplest terms, it could stand the heat and the centrifugal force where other materials couldn't.

Granted, given everything we've said here, if you're flying a rotary, I'd suggest a modern synthetic. Just in case.

Hello Charles, I´d rather be breathing castor oil fumes than sinthetic oil fumes...

I'm thinkin', I'm thinkin'!

Was gonna post a question and it fled my mind, replaced by pithy questions regarding the perfect cornbread recipe (no whole corn, please, am allergic to it) and David Lee Roth. Please stand by...

EDIT: Okay, got it. So, what's the deal with the Hawker Typhoon engine, especially amid the urgency of war?
