What I have to do?

Postby petertohen » Thu Jan 25, 2018 12:54 am

I just downloaded the free Windows 10! Stupidly, I neglected to check whether it likes FSX before downloading. It turns out it isn't compatible with the version of DirectX FSX uses. There are a lot of shortcomings in W10 and so I recovered back to W7. All seemed well-ish until I installed a new aircraft in FSX. It runs the sim ok but when I come out of it a 'Fatal Error' warning pop up and FSX closes and then restarts returning to the default flight (the micro-light) rather than the chosen flight and at Friday Harbour rather than the chosen airport. Running all previously added aircraft produces no 'Fatal Error'.

I have reinstalled FSX and SP1 and 2 but with no effect. Is it necessary to delete all the downloaded aircraft rather than leaving them intact during uninstall? Putting them back takes so long!!

Last Spring I had a similar issue / problem as yours tho I never did upgrade to windows 10 as per all the issues & problems discussed in these forums as well as other forums from many other users too !!

In the end I ended up having to reinstall WINDOWS 7 and do a total re'install of FSX Gold / Acceleration which ended any lock ups and freeze ups !!!

Just reverting back to windows 7 didn't work,,,,

BUT, performing a complete re'install of windows 7 did the trick,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

luckily I had back up Disc's for W7,,,,,,

Also as discussed earlier last year in the forums, Windows 10 has some very misleading security updates that are NOT really security updates at all, as the intent is to mislead the users , more of a snooping session by Mickey Soft for your information as well as being able to send spam thru emails and other BS,,,

You'll just have to sift thru the forums here as well as Flight Sim and Froogle sim to read about it.....

I too have a lot of add on aircraft & scenery and yes its time consuming reinstalling all that stuff.

Which is why I quit simming for 8 months to get other stuff done more important and waited till winter to slowly reinstall some of what I had previously.

Actually seems to perform better after a total clean up , and reinstall of my FSX and payware products and freeware products.

Just wait till windows 25 comes,,,,, sure they'll be problems galore and by then I'll most likely be DEAD and 6'ft under  :o

Hi,

The aircraft you installed? was it an acceleration version?
Do you have Acceleration and have you re-installed it?

I'm now on win10 via new laptop but maybe I was lucky? everything installed, just had to do the minor registry edit to register Acceleration, even have my fs9 reinstalled along with the Just Flight addons.

What was the aircraft that triggered the problem? If from here maybe can check if anything odd about installing ?

AV programs can cause a lot of problems as can having UAC turned up.

Steve

I updated from Windows 8.2 to Windows 10 shortly after Windows 10 was released. Boy was that a big mistake almost half of my software would not work due to lack of the correct drivers, so I wound up reverting back to windows 8
only to discover there were still a few problems so I wound up doing a reinstall of Windows 8.2. I waited a few months and than went to Windows 10 again and everything was working great till the first major update for windows came in November that is when the Sugar Honey Ice Tea hit the fan big time after the update I discovered that it had deactivated FSX GOLD\Acceleration and to make matters worse I was unable to uninstall FSX because it did not show up on the list of programs to uninstall. I had to put in Disk 1 of FSX and use the remove method. Of course I than had to run the reset tool before I could reinstall FSX but then it would not allow me to register Acceleration at all.
It was not until recently that I finally figured out the problem and was able to install and register Acceleration. But it was a major pain in the rear if you know what I mean.
But like the other post if you plan on sticking with any version of Windows beside Windows 1o be aware that Microsoft will stop supporting it and you may discover that new software may not install due to the lack of a driver needed that is not in any version of windows other than windows 10.
So in a way Microsoft has you over a barrel. The bottom line here is is is up to you But I think that Microsoft has finally managed to work out 98% of the bugs in Windows 10.
Of course the fact that Microsoft released windows 10 way to soon had a lot to do with all of the problems it has had. But that is how Microsoft has done things in the past. If you go back to when Windows 7 was first released it had all kinds of problems as well.
But if you plan on staying with windows 7 I would definitely do a complete reinstall of windows 7 completely reformatting the drive to make sure you start with a fresh hard drive. I know that you will have to reinstall everything but this may be the best way to make sure things go back correctly and it will mot leave a copy of your old windows of your system. 8-)
