The Underground Terminal ?

Postby H » Fri Sep 29, 2017 10:48 am

Richard and Catherine Dotson were both born in 1797 and were married for fifty years. Richard died about seven years after Catherine's death in 1877 and they were both buried in the family cemetery. An airport was built near the cemetery during World War II and most of the graves were moved to build a runway through the cemetery after the war. However, because the Dotson family refused permission for their ancestors to be exhumed, the runway was built over their graves and markers were placed in the runway over their remains. Thus, Savannah, Georgia, has the only airport in the world with grave markers embedded in its runway.
