Bear Island, Florida v2.0 Released for FSX/P3D!

Postby christopherbritton » Wed Jul 05, 2017 9:42 am

Bear Island v2 is a redux of my original Bear Island scenery, released back in 2013. Although this original scenery was fairly popular, it was not very detailed and used almost all default objects. Now four years down the road, and with the original Bear Island no longer reflecting my current standards, I decided that it was time for a redux..

Bear Island has been completely recreated in incredible detail, utilizing nearly all custom objects. Animated Birds and Dolphins are now the only default objects used in this detailed scenery! Bear Island v2 includes custom hi-definition textured models depicting South Florida native vegetation, trees, and more! Many vegetation textures have been color-matched to blend well with the FTX Global matched photo real. A crisp layer of 10m mesh has also been included to give the island some slopes and elevation.

SODE has been utilized in this scenery to bring many environmentally-dynamic features including rain puddles, ambient sounds, windsocks and more!

For full functionality of this scenery, you must install the latest version of Emerald Object Library v2.0.

Scenery Features:
• 30cm/px photo real textures. Color-matched to FTX Global.
• 10m Terrain Mesh for uneven surfaces.
• Hand-placed custom HD vegetation that is native to Southern Florida.
• Custom HD buildings.[/list]
• All models incorporate LODs for improved performance!
• A Configurator to activate/deactivate multiple features of the scenery.
• Reworked Water Class for Crescent Lake.
• Environmentally-Dynamic features utilizing SODE!

SODE Features
SODE is used to control a few different environmentally-dynamic features in the scenery.

Windsocks – 4 levels of animation are provided. No wind, Low, Medium, and High. This object will display year-round.
The Frog – This frog REALLY loves the rain. You will not be able to find him at any other time. You can find him perched on a rock near the dock during the rainy days of March-October.
Ambient Cicadas – These guys are noisy, but leaving them out would leave out a big part of the Florida ambient sounds. They can be heard during the day in May and June. Want them to shut up? Pray for rain.
Ambient Crickets and Tree Frogs – These can be heard at Dusk and Night, year-round. Rain will silence them.
Ambient Birds – Songbirds can be heard at Dawn and during the Day, year-round. Rain will silence them.
Rain Puddles – Puddles will only appear when it rains.

This scenery was designed for: FSX | FSX:SE | P3Dv2 | P3Dv3 | P3Dv4

FSX Steam Edition Users:
FSX:SE Users! If you experience issues with models not appearing until you get right up on them, make sure you have SmallPartRejectRadius=0 set under [SCENERY] in the fsx.cfg. This only applies to FSX:SE! – Thanks Andreas (addman) for the tip-off!

Paul try FL21 and thanks Chris for the scenery. Is there a particular order to install the scenery because at the end of installation it paused at a dos prompt for the SODE exe xml, the next scenery I installed or it could have been the objects library installed SODE. I reinstalled the scenery and all the bells and whistles work, very loud through headphones had to turn the volume down.

No luck, Dave.... :? ....

Airport/Airstrip FL21 doesn't exist in the list....

...and I haven't gotten got a clue where this; "Bear Island" is...

....in Florida, or anywhere else!... ....!

Paul.... ...!

P.S. Bear Island, on Google Nav Maps, appears to be in the middle of "Crescent Lake" near Palm Coast, Florida.
There is a gravel landing strip shown there, but I cant find an ICAO address for it. Maybe there isn't one!!

All I can find is an airstrip [16FD] on the banks of Crescent Lake (Florida), and a short flight towards the lake will reveal the Island in the middle of the lake, (but at the moment there is no Flight Sim Detail on it).
Maybe it needs to be manually "added" to the scenery library?

I believe it's located in Crescent City Florida, west of Daytona Beach Fl. It's a small island in the middle of Lake Crescent.

Hello. I'm glad to see that this scenery is sparking some interest. Just to clear a few things up..

This airport has been given the fictional designation of FL21. I have not been able to find any charts with it's official designation, from when it was registered on aviation charts.

To those who cannot find this airfield, check that the installer properly activated the scenery and be sure not to touch the install path. This scenery must be installed into your FSX/P3D directory.

The scenery should activate itself during install.

Have you downloaded the required object libraries?

Hi Dave. I would recommend installing the libraries first. If you already have a somewhat up-to-date version of SODE installed, then it really doesn't matter.
If you didn't have SODE installed, then the prompt likely paused because it couldn't find the folder it needed to copy the files to.

Do you have your sim's environmental sounds on 100%? Try turning them down to about 50%. I'll look at balancing the sound levels a bit in an upcoming Object Library update. :)

Thanks Chris, I think it was looking for the Sode xml to add entries and I didn't have it installed at the time. Off to try out some of your other sceneries with Heidi and the Cub.
