Will CFS2 Work In W7? And Do People still play it?

Postby Amelia » Sun Jan 22, 2017 8:15 pm

I am not sure if CFS2 will run on Windows 7, I still have the game in the original box and cartoon manual and do LOT
of people still play it? I have moved on to IL-2 years ago but I still favor CFS2 very much, for me it became very
complicated as authors increased more and more requirments just to run a mission or scenery...I finally gave up
moved to IL-2.

CFS2 runs very well on Windows 7, 8 & 10. I think there are still a few die-hards around.

It does work but it looks awful on a modern widescreen monitor. IL2 is better but still very dated and comic bookish. I’ve yet to find a really good WWII combat flight sim; it seems that there isn’t enough interest in it for software developers to consider it worth bothering with. Someone please correct me if there is a good sim out there!

I imagine that if you change your screen resolution before starting CFS2, you might find a setting that makes it look ok.

Just a guess.

I remember, many Moons ago, being able to use my civilian default Cessna 172, from my copy of FS 2002, in my copy of CFS2, to enable me to explore the Henderson Scenery, (Pacific Theatre), with ease.

Tried it again, just now, and CFS2 is not happy with it (incompatible model?).... :( ...!

CFS2 runs fine on my 'puter using the CFS2 military default aircraft

The high wing Cessna is much better at low level exploration, for me, than the war birds!

Maybe the old FS 2002 Cessna 172 Model (texture, etc,) is not happy with my latest Windows 8.1, Intel i7 Processor, etc, running CFS2!

It would be nice to explore CFS2 using the civilian aircraft from FS2002 and FS 2004... ...!

(I'm not into shooting and bombing stuff....I'm all for a quiet life!)... ...!

Any ideas Chums!... ;) ...!

Indeed. It looks fine on my 17" laptop. 1366 x 768 x 32 resolution.

Are you sure it wasn't the FS2000 172 Paul? I don't think the FS2002 model is compatible with CFS2. Nothing to do with Windows.

You may be on a winner there, Doug!

I'll dig out my copy of FS 2000 again, install it again, and dig out the Cessna 172, or whatever else I have in there, and poke it/them in my CFS2!

Its fun exploring the Island, and Henderson Field.

This one should work. http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=dfsdc172.zip&categoryId=&filename=Y
I'm downloading it to try as I type.

Belay that! I'm getting an error message. Might be one or more gauges.
