What a great video, thanks for posting it shadowcaster. I never worked with steam but my father did up until the diesel powered engines came out. He worked an an engineer for 43 years before retiring and I put in 37 years as an engineer before going. My son now works for the railway on the track replacing the worn out rail. He didn't want to work in the running trades as you are on call 24/7 and he has regular hours on his job.

Far out! Great countryside there. Grab a beer and let's go! Makes me wanna break out my 1950 Lionels and run 'em around again.

When we wuz little kids, we lived in walking distance of a freight line. They'd come thru twice a day. Used to walk on the tracks all the time, wave at the engineers, flatten pennies on the tracks, and throw rocks at the freight cars.

Nice streamliner video, I'm a bit young to remember steam but I did have a trip from York to Scarborough pulled both ways by another streamliner the Sir Nigel Gresley a Pacific A4 class locomotive have some pictures somewhere it was a great experience.

My memories of Steam was my train trips to and from London on the Great Western Railway (GWR) in the 1940's and 1950's.

Paddington Railway Station, and all the surrounding buildings, station coated in smoke grime, the smell of coal smoke and hot oil, and hanging out of the carriage windows with grit in my eyes!

A wonderful sight, all those locomotives, but, my goodness, they did make a mess with all their smoke, which also added to the "Smog" which we all suffered from...>>>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Smog
