WINDOWS 10 AND FS9

Postby garymbuska » Sat Aug 01, 2015 3:42 pm

Bad news for FS9 users I just installed Windows 10 and so far I have had no luck in getting it to run. I even reinstalled it but no joy.
This is indeed a sad day

For all of us Niners out there, it looks like we're better off sticking with whatever OS we've currently got! Lots of others out there with similar issues.

Ta for the warning, Lads.... ;) ....

I run (FS '98), FS 2002, FS 2004 , and FSX, so its staying with Windows 8.1 for me...

It hasn't broken, so why try and fix it!

This might work. Scroll down to my solution. If it doesn't work don't give up. Keep on Googling.

Luckily .... that's what I've said since Windows XP! Haven't had a "headache" since then either!

Windows Vista over here. No problem so far except for the occasional crash to desktop. EDIT: Woops, I mistook this for the FSX section. Silly me.

This afternoon, during a visit, I borrowed my Daughter-In Law's Laptop Computer, with Windows Vista installed, to try al look at You-Tube.........

..and it felt like going back to Windows 3, and Dial-up, 56k, Internet, all over again!.... ....!

So frustrating!

Even my 1984 Sinclair Spectrum Computer loaded data quicker off of its 1/4 inch audio tapes!

I was glad to get back home again and fire up my Win 8.1 and Intel Core i7 Processor on my trusty Tower Gaming Computer!.... ....!

There are some Windows Operating Systems that should never been allowed to see the light of day!.... :o ....!

....(Sorry Kat!)..... ;) ....!

I downloaded WIN 10 a few days ago. For me, the download, despite a hiccup with my video card, and resulting performance has been a fairly positive experience. With 8.1, I lost all AC ability and had to rely on memory to key things like maps, change of aircraft etc. I have found that with WIN 10, that has all been returned. There are still a couple of issues yet to be worked out, but don't give up just yet...

I well remember it took me AGES to upgrade from FS '98 to FS 2002...(FS 2000 was naff!).
..and it took me AGES to upgrade from FS 2002 to FS 2004...
...and it took me AGES to upgrade from FS 2004 to FSX...

Mainly because there was really nothing much wrong with the older/previous versions!... :D ...!

...and 'cos of that reasons, I still have the old versions on my HDD ready to run!

(I remember it took me 12 months to age from my 80th birthday to my 81st birthday).

I suspect that its going to take me AGES to upgrade from my Win 8.1 to the new Win 10....

...'cos at the moment there's not a lot wrong with my Win 8.1...and my 81st birthday is just fine!

Paul....don't rush me!..... ;) .... ....!

How did you manage to get it to run.
What version of Windows 10 do you have Home or Pro I had Windows 10 Home and I could not get FS9 to run no matter what I did.

I've got the pro version and had FS9 still in my files so I thought I would bring it back to life for nostalgia. I went into the FS9 folder and created a desktop icon ,then ran it. It started right up as when I had it on Win 7. I had a black screen once on start but I waited and it came up after several minutes. I'm not going to fly it much.

received an offer from Microsoft to download for free the new Windows 10. Originally running FSX and acceleration, etc... on Windows 7. After installation of W10, I started FSX, no problem to select a plane and a departure airport, and to fly, but when attempting to have a look on the map, .... black screen for far too long time to be some kind of search for a file. My point of view is that Windows 10 do not like the change of display mode without notice as it is designed to run on a smartphone.

Anyway ,I tired 2 r 3 times with the same result, so I just step back to Windows 7 and will continue like this until further notice from Microsoft, I don't want to spend time searching for an hypothetic patch.

Bye,

I have it working in Win 10 Home – well, sort of, kind of like!

It needs to be installed in its own folder not in the Program Files (x86) one. It needs to have the 9.1 update applied and the fs9.exe file replaced with the “no CD” file, which can be downloaded from a number of sites if you haven’t got it.

The only thing that’s not quite right is the black screen on the menu page. It reverts to normal by switching to windowed mode, so not a major problem, but I don’t yet know what causes it. Apart from that, it runs sweet as a nut!
