Any Experienced Sailors Here

Postby Milton » Wed Apr 15, 2015 10:25 pm

Going beta on this very soon.

The HMS Bounty is a typical 18th Century mercantile ship, purchased by the HMAV and renamed the HMS Bounty commanded by the infamous Capt. Bligh and mutineer-ed by Christian Slater after leaving Tahiti. The ship and its story now lives in infamy.

After the replica Bounty sunk in Hurricane Sandy in October 2012, I decided to honor her with this production. Two years in the making and now we have something very special and very unique to FlightSim.

The ship is completely driven by the winds and sails deployed. The sails are individually managed, and must be set to "catch the wind". The ship responds to wind speeds and direction. Four animated flags indicate wind direction and move appropriately with the wind speeds. Sails have 10 positions from port to starboard, close hauled, beam reach, broad reach, running each side. She also has an "auto-skipper" to manage the sails for you, removing appropriate sails in high winds, or adding them back as winds slow. Foot ropes and sails move in the breezes. A Sail Management window provides all the info needed visually and by text to manage sails, winds, and monitor weather. The sail configuration section allows individual sail management, plus contains the auto-skipper, Lantern lights, ship's bells, and "Salute" cannon fire.

This package works equally well in FSX and FS9 and is frame rate friendly. This package should be available in early May.

Yes, I'm a keen sailor. I race small sail boats but my interest extends to anything with a sail on it.

Your project looks brilliant. :-)

I'm a windsurfer who loves sailing! I've go just about every civilian boat for FSX I could find and test for optimal performance. DeltaSim has quite a few...although neither the X55 or the Catamaran have anchors. Maybe you could program them to the Parking Brake! Now all we need is vintage Scenery not unlike Pacsims' RawGrit, where nothing much has changed over 500 years in Papua! 8-) !

May can't come soon enough.

The Mutiny of the Bounty is my favorite historical event. There was 100s of mutinies, but this one is the most famous.

Thank you for your comments; it's great to see some enthusiasm for this project. :-) It's been a long time coming.

And just FYI, Anthin who posted above has been testing for us since January. Thanks Anthin. :-)

This project is loaded with special programming to keep everything manageable, wind driven with appropriate responses, and simple to operate thanks to Rob Baredregt's contributions.

Nigel Richards has also provided 6 different paint schemes (3 for the Bounty and its replica's, one for Bethia which is how the Bounty originated, and one for the Endeavor and Beagle.
Nigel has also provided a realistic and relaxing sound set that should put you in the mood.

Here are a few more shots; don't want to bore you. :-)

You might notice the 23' Launch of the Bounty out in the water. Yes, she is a 2 masted ketch that you can sail with all the sail animations and wind response features as the Bounty. She is light enough and fast enough to easily tack through the headwinds. Very enjoyable to put out in. :-)

I have immense respect for sailors! My waterborne hobby beigins with 3-steps: A) untie , B) turn the key , C) operate throttles accordingly.
I love the smell of radials in the morning!

An Aircraft Mechanic only needs two tools, Duct Tape and WD40.
If it moves and it's not supposed to - use the Duct Tape.
If it doesn't move and it's supposed to - use the WD40.

We are wrapping up our first beta today with a second beta this week, and likely a release by next weekend. Results and reactions have been very positive. Not just fun, but relaxing and addictive.

Thanks for your interest.
