..thinking back now..
...two escapes...

(1) Cut-up by cars, on a very busy (Wilton) roundabout...

(2) Car driver heading for me, over the centre line of the road, on a blind bend!...nearly clashed mirrors!

Both at Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire.

"Thinking back" is scary...and can keep you/me awake at nights!

Guess who forgot to charge up helmet cam. I've got about 3 seconds of me sitting on the bike getting ready to start her and then the camera died. I am a proper plonker sometimes
Ah well I'm going out with my mate Jess on the back this coming weekend for a spin, so I'll remember to charge the camera beforehand this time.

Oh well, at least you had a good ride . I would do a video if I could figure out how my sons cam worked. Maybe I can get him to show me this weekend when he gets home. As far as forgetting to charge the battery, I forgot where I set down the key for the bike this weekend and spent a half an hour looking for it so dont feel bad.

I see you too have the same problem there as I do here, people with no respect for bikes sad but true, I guess we have them everywhere.

Cameras....

I've got some videos of some of my bike rides with a cheap (£20-45) spy camera attached to the bike.

Bad idea!...Far too much vibration, making the results un-watchable!.... ....

Better to use a quality Go-pro camera, secured in a chest-mounted harness.... ...!

...also useful to have one with a "view-finder", to get it pointed in the rights direction!

#1 Happened to me, causing my last accident. Little old lady pulled out of a parking lot, trying to make a left turn directly into my path. I T-Boned her, altho they said I did manage to lay the bike down, it stood back up on impact and threw me up and over her car. Lovely little flight , although a tad short. My last thought before I hit was "Man, this is gonna HURT!", and then during my first bounce, as I watched my wonderful glacier-glasses I need ever since I lost my left eye, as now they are both light-sensitive I thought " Oh NO! I need those!" They came right out of the helmet. It seems I hit face first (thank you full face hellmets!) and it knocked them loose. Shattered my right arm, broke all the bones in my right foot. Loads of fun healing up!
Luckily for us both it was right at shift-change at the police station across the street, and a lot were having Icecream at the Baskin Robbins right on the corner. One was holding my head as the rest pried the bike out from under her driver's door. Lucky for her too, soon as she got out, she came over and asked for my insurance information, standing over me and looking down! I said a lot of really bad words in several languages to her (Former Marine ) while trying to get up up to kill her. Didn't really know my arm was shattered, it just wouldn't work right! Finally the cop holding my head still told her to get away from us or he'd let me up...

Never did have #2 happen to me, but I did manage to run square into a wild horse at 60MPH. I lost my left eye bouncing down the centerline with my helmet. Knocked loose the retina, cataracted the lens over etc etc. HOWEVER! The horse died at the scene, so I won! I am the only person I know to date has killed a horse with their bare (well, wearing a leather biker jacket) chest! Neener!

It seems like the world is out to kill us bikers, so I gave up riding after the LOL (Little Old Lady) got me. I am still driving my 87 Toyota pickup, though! 325,000mi+. Apparently no one wants to kill those!

Be carefull out there guys, it's a dnagerous world!

I always feel very grateful every time I get back home in one piece, no matter how far, or how short the journey!

Its the daily risk we Bikers run!

Strangely enough, I have watched all of Henry Cole's; "Worlds Greatest Motorcycle Rides" on the TV Travel Channel, where he has covered many thousands of trouble-free miles with no traffic, etc, problems/dangers, in various countries of the World!

I've ridden Rte. 1, LA to Lahonda, and I don't know how many times up and down Lahonda Rd. and Kings Mountain Rd., some of the greatest riding in the world, IMO. Then again, my parent's house is near lower end of Kings Mountain Rd, in Woodside I could easily walk into Huddart Park from the back end horse trails
Nowadays, they close off King's Mt. on Sundays for motorzied traffic, unpowered bicycles etc only...I do miss those rides!

As to those, needless to say, I can't tell you, in almost 18 years of having to ride out to work (1 Hr. each way, less if no Highway Patrol!) I've been through so many desert rides, which I hate, btw, I was sick of them! I've ridden through literally every kind of desert weather, from the TWO worst thunderstorms Yuma ever had, with 6" of rain EACH (normal is 3" per year), to 127 in the shade, clear hot days. I had 2 liters of water frozen for the rides, and had totally soaked my clothes before departure from work, stopped at YPG's entrance to rewet and drink water (which had thawed completely by then). I stopped for gas as I did every day, and when I walked into the station to pay, I passed out. Toooo good an AC! I did wake up shortly with the younng lady who worked there giving me mouth-to-mouth. Wasn't aware of the tounge action in that proceedure though...
Besides, the desert is where the horse got me! I thnk I'll pass on those!

Good to hear the "real" solo rides experience. Maybe better enjoyed in a group of riders, watching out for each other...in perfect weather!

The organised Harley ride-out groups always look good fun!
(Henry Cole always has a back-up camera-car following him, in case of "problems", eg; running out of fuel with a tiny Harley gas tank, change of clothes, rescue, etc!).
All of the Motorcycle rides that I regularly watch on U-Tube are all done during perfect weather, so its a bit deceiving!
For me, being long retired (30+ years), most of my biking (my only means of transport for 65 years!), is carried out in good weather conditions, apart from a forced occasional trip to the local Supermarket in the pouring rain/snow when I run out of vital vitals!
I find it great fun following the familiar US Highways at low level, using "Ultimate Terrain USA" from the safety of my FSX Flight Sim, and Googling/Wikipedia the details of the scenery evolving beneath me!

Excellent way to learn about the World!
