tail hook and launch bars for default aircraft

Postby mustangaroo » Fri May 23, 2014 4:34 pm

Just thinking that I like the challenge of landing on a deck with an airplane not quite designed for the situation. I wouldn't care if I could not SEE the hook or launch bar but who hasn't wanted to trap a B-25? :geek: :lol: :lol:

How about a real challenge_say a C-130? If it can be done in real life I would think it can be replicated in FSX. :think: :lol: :lol: NO GUTS - NO GLORY

An Aircraft Mechanic only needs two tools, Duct Tape and WD40.
If it moves and it's not supposed to - use the Duct Tape.
If it doesn't move and it's supposed to - use the WD40.

Maybe some practicing with the Pilatus would help ;)

I thought MAYBE that some enterprising developer has already done this but then again the config files would have to be altered to fit each and every plane. Thinking it over it is too much to ask for...maybe later in the decade? :think: :think: :think: :think:

You can add a tailhook (invisible) to any aircraft by adding this section to the aircraft cfg.

[TailHook]
tailhook_length=5 ;(feet)
tailhook_position=-19.5, 0.0, -1.0 ;(feet) longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum
cable_force_adjust=1.0
[LSO]
LSOAdjustSpeed=0.7

As for the catapult system, add these lines to the aircraft cfg.

[launch_assistance]
launch_bar_pivot = 5.0, 0.0, -1.0
launch_bar_lug = 5.0, 0.0, -4.5

This is the data from the default F18, so some tweaking may be needed to get it to behave properly.

Thanks Chuck79! Now that is simple enough even for me, however I have yet to figure out how to edit those files in windows7.... It won't let me do such under cover modification. My learning curve is going to get steeper I suppose. :doh: :doh: :think:

Here's what I used to do: Make a back up copy of your original aircraft cfg. file and rename it or put it somewhere else for safe keeping. Then move the aircraft cfg. file that you'd like to edit onto your desktop. Edit the file, save then return it to the aircraft folder O0
