Download Problems

Postby Flying Trucker » Fri Apr 04, 2014 2:21 pm

Goodly afternoon all... <<q

I am having a problem downloading two (2) simulated aeroplanes.

-Fleet Freighter 50K which I would really like to use in FSX
-Junker 13

http://www.ford-tri-motor.net/Misc-Aircraft.htm

Both Downloaded from above link right here from the FS2004 Century of Flight Forum

The simulated aircraft will show up...but...all three aircraft for the Fleet Freighter only show in one color (white)
-no pictures for simulated aircraft in FSX aircraft category selection
-no sound for either simulated aircraft
-textures will not show for Fleet Freighter and not sure how to add them in Aircraft CFG File as could find no info...

I downloaded the Effects and the Textures I wanted from the above Link.

Perhaps these will only work properly in FS2004 but not sure...any help would be most appreciated.
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Both aircraft are intended for FS2004 but will work fine in FSX with a few simple mods. Let's take this one at a time.

First of all
The simulated aircraft will show up...but...all three aircraft for the Fleet Freighter only show in one color (white)

All three examples of this aircraft have blank textures. For different liveries you have to add the various repaints. (See below)

-no pictures for simulated aircraft in FSX aircraft category selection

This applies to all FS2004 aircraft in FSX. FS2004 does not use thumbnails on the selection menu. This is easy enough to fix. Rename a screenshot of the specific aircraft to thumbnail.jpg. Then paste it into the Texture folder of that aircraft.

-no sound for either simulated aircraft

Again, a common bug with FS2004 aircraft in FSX. The sound of both types is aliased to the FS2004 default Tri-Motor which is not included with FSX. To fix it you can paste a copy of the Sound folder of any suitable aircraft (like the default Beaver) into the main folder of the Fleet & Junkers. Overwrite the existing Sound folder when prompted.

-textures will not show for Fleet Freighter and not sure how to add them in Aircraft CFG File as could find no info...

Strange that no example CFG entries are included. Again, if you're used to adding repaints it shouldn't be a problem.

Open Aircraft.cfg of the Fleet in Notepad. Highlight the original [fltsim.0] entry & copy it. Then paste it below itself & change the four lines in Bold type to recognise the new texture. I've used the Tundra version of the aircraft with the BCATP texture in this example. Note that the new texture folder name is texture.BCATP . Use the exact name following the period in the new texture= line.

[fltsim.0]

sim=fl50tundra
model=tundra

texture=BCATP

Repeat the procedure for other variations.

A very unusual aircraft. I've not heard of it before.

Good afternoon Doug... ;)

Thanks ever so much for all that help.

Here is a Link about the aircraft if you have not looked it up yet....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fleet_50

Okay...here I go:
-Sound...very good now...used Beaver on floats for the sound...
-Aircraft Liveries show up well in FSX and the simulated aircraft flies well in the air...
-Fun to land on water...

-However will not Take Off from water...I think it needs the Pacific Ocean...

-I can not get Thumbnails of Pictures I took to show in FSX.
-Changed them to Thumbnails.JPG. but they will not show...that is alright as I can still bring up the simulated aircraft I want to use

Not sure what to do about the Take Off on water and have not tried anything else like wheel or ski Landings, as have been trying to get the pictures to show in the FSX Program...

Again thanks for getting me this far...Cheers Doug... ;)

So far so good. I've done a water landing but must admit I haven't tried taking off again. The flight dynamics might need tweaking for FSX but that's beyond my capabilities. She sits a tad low in the water so that might be the cause of the problem.

The file name is thumbnail.jpg (No letter S). When in doubt refer to the default aircraft.

Again thanks for getting me this far...Cheers Doug... ;)

You're welcome.

Good morning Doug... ;)

Well still no luck and am starting to think because there is no "Texture" only File that is where the problem is...

There is a texture.base file...

I can still click on the simulated aircraft in the FSX Library and it will show no problem.

That shouldn't affect anything. Perhaps you misunderstood my advice. The screenshots should be in JPG format, just like the ones you post on the forum. Any image named thumbnail.jpg in the appropriate texture folder should display as a thumbnail for that variation of the aircraft on the Select Aircraft menu.

Good morning Doug... <<q

I have to be doing something wrong.

FSX and Windows 7

Have sized the pictures using BDSizer and placed them in the appropriate locations.

They still do not show up.

Image

At the bottom of the above picture it says "thumbnail.jpg"
Taken from Properties of above picture as did not know how to show the window "thumbnail.jpg Properties to you.

thumbnail.jpg
Type of file JPEGimage (.jpg)
Opens with Windows Live Photo Gall (Change)

Location C:\Users\Doug\Pictures\Flight Simulator Files

Size 137KB (140,551 bytes)

Size of disk 140KB (143,360 bytes)

Attributes Read Only (box not checked) Hidden (box not checked) Advanced

Maybe my BDSizer settings are wrong?

Doug. I can't think why you're still having problems. There's nothing wrong with the image you posted. I saved it & renamed it to thumbnail.jpg before pasting it into the Texture.Ford folder of my Fleet 50K Jacobs Skiplane. Here it is in the folder.

Image

and here it is on the selection menu.
Image

It doesn't really need to be such a large image although that should not affect anything.
The default thumbnails are 256 pixels wide. I've cropped & resized your image for you. Please save this one to your system, rename it to thumbnail.jpg & try it.

Hi Doug... :|

Well I renamed the picture like you asked and placed it where it was supposed to be and still no change.

All I get are the white/grey shots of some simulated aircraft for all variants.

I also did this:

-deleted all Fleet 50s off FSX
-changed sound to Twin Beech
-installed aircraft and took new pictures
-used BDsizer to resize...made them smaller

-checked Properties of the picture you gave me against each picture I resized and they all look good...can't see any problems

-Pasted the pictures back into the FSX Folders in the SimObjects Airplanes

-Still got the same results... :o

I am starting to think it is my FSX...

I can use it the way it is as the Simulated Aircraft does show up in the two liveries plus base livery in all three configurations.

Now I wonder who can help me with the Float Fleet? I just tried a takeoff and ran out of Pacific Ocean...

Oh and before I forget when I was using BDSizer I changed the top number and I think it was 1024, does that sound correct. I only use it for FSX and Simviation.

Thanks again for the time and patience Doug....Cheers Doug ;)

Doug. Don't blame FSX. It must be something you're doing wrong. I suspect it's something simple you've overlooked.

Yes, until recently the maximum size of screenshots for this forum was 1024 pixel width. This has been increased to 1800.

Thanks Doug...should have blamed it on the Old Girl... ;)

Well this Electronic Gizmo is not going to beat me...like you, I think it is something simple I have over looked.

We tend to get into a routine of doing things and often forget or over look something. Just like in real aviation... ;) gosh Doug had lots of practice doing that...

If all else fails I shall fall back to Plan 2. Every should have a Plan 2...

Will ask one of our Grandchildren to fix it for me...   Grandpa's rule... :violin:

Hello,

I know this an old thread, but I am having issues with the float versions of these aircraft with FSX SE.
Starting on water The Ju just pitches forward and the Fleet sit OK but was it moves an aircraft length forward it "crashes".
I have used other models in the same circumstances and they work OK as I feel certain its not a scenery thing.

Any advice would be appreciated.

thanks
