If you grandson could give a speech he probably doesn't have a problem that I had when I was 11 or 12 - stuttering.

I corrected the problem by reading aloud at night in my bedroom.

At some point, in less than a year, I stopped stuttering.

Sorry for havig introduced the octopus.

Pulpo a la gallega.

Not in the picture but is served with small potatoes typical from Galicia (celtic región of Spain) they call "cachelos"

The octopus should be softened before cooking. This is achieved by freezing the octopus for two days to kill the nerve , the ice occupies a greater volume and causes the tissues to break and therefore the meat is more tender.
Heat a pan with water and an onion and when it starts to boil add the octopus . Held it by the head and introduce and remove it from the pan three times in a row , before final release , this technique is known as "scare the octopus ."

Cooking time depends on the size of the piece , so for example , a 2 kilo octopus will cook for fifty minutes.
Once cooked remove from heat , cover the pan and let stand about 15 minutes to prevent the skin from falling.
In the same water where has been cooked the octopus, boil potatoes, peeled and cut into thick slices. When tender remove from the pan , drain and reserve .
When serving, cut the octopus in not very thick pieces using scissors , placing potatoes and pieces of octopus in individual wooden plates.
Finally, flavore octopus with olive oil and sprinkle with paprika, cayenne pepper and abundant coarse salt .

Thanks "papituwall"...that sounds delicious... ;)

Our family cooks a lot of wild game and potatoes and onions are one of the staple ingredients.

I also like to add celery, peppers and garlic to many of my dishes. I find sweet red onions are much nicer to cook with than yellow onions but the Old Girl will sometimes combine the onions.

Again thanks for posting that recipe and OH...before I forget the Old Girl mentioned that here we can purchase octopus pre-cooked or fresh she believes...

I'm afraid that I only vaguely remember the movie.

Do tell.

You must have taken Public Speaking in High or Upper School. Here it is compulsory that each student does one or two speeches in front of the class.

This month is the Royal Canadian Legion Public Speaking Contest.

We had to do Public Speaking in the military here in front of our own units. Sometimes the topic was chosen or delegated to you by the Sergeant in charge of the Flight. You had to speak for at least thirty to forty-five minutes and then take questions after.

It was interesting and good training... ;)

Here in the Lower 48 Provinces we don't have Public Speaking as a required course and unfortunately I don't think it's offered in many schools as an elective. I do believe it's a very good idea though, especially in today's electronic communications environment. I just read an article about school age children's growing inability to effectively communicate with peers in a face to face situation. The problem seems to be stemming from the overuse of texting, cell phones and computers (email) to talk to each other. The gestures, body language and inflections are lost.

Hi Hawkeye07... <<u

Thanks for the reply... ;)

Do you think teenagers are better at multi-tasking now than we were as teenagers... :?:

The other day the Old Girl and I stopped at a small village restaurant at noon.

The restaurant was full of teenagers on lunch...I always though they had a cafeteria to go to... :?:

Well we were lucky to get a booth and while waiting for our meal we saw several young ladies in their teens doing this:
-chewing gum
-gesturing with their one hand to the person across from them...they must have got the message as the other person nodded back
-ate their chips...at least that is what we thought they were eating as there was so much ketchup and gravy on them and I think they still had their gum
-texted with the other hand

It was quite the show...believe me...

You know FT, I don't really think they are better at multi-tasking they just have more gadgets to do it with. I remember back when I was in high school I'd be cruising thru the suburbs of Buffalo, N.Y. in my manual shift 4 speed, 327 cu. Chevy shifting gears, keeping one eye on the traffic lights and crosswalks, signing the latest Beatles hit, eating a burger and checking out the girls walking down the sidewalk on their way home from school. Now that was mult-tasking!

Sometimes actions become so ingrained that we don't even know that we're doing anything unusual.

Hi OldAirmail...that is an interesting reply... ;)

The Old Girl and I were sitting at a Commercial Airfield on a fenced in patio with tables, chairs and umbrellas having a light lunch.

I watched as a pilot did a walk around on his aircraft and then entered the aircraft. He started it up and in a few minutes was on his way to the runway.

We though he was just taxing the aircraft to a hangar as the Control Locks were still in place.

I ran inside and told them at the Flight School Desk and they immediately contacted the Tower.

The aircraft taxied back to the ramp, shut down and the pilot walked into another portion of the building.

Apparently the pilot was having family problems, had flown several hundred hours and done walk arounds on his aircraft prior to his flights. The walk arounds would have been second nature to him.

However, that day the pilot did his walk around and never even saw his aircraft... :o

Good morning all... <<q

I wonder how many Public Speakers actually see the audience they are talking to :?:

I think a lot of Motivation Speakers only see something on the back wall, they never seem to take questions either.
