E-Bay's Impact On Diecast Values

It's a bummer man! I have several thousand dollars worth of nascar, matchbox, hotwheel.... diecast and it's worth
nothing because of that damn E-Bay.

I love how the Diecast Digest Price Guide says a car is worth $150.00 and people on E-Bay are asking and not getting
$20.00 bucks for it. I would love to know where the Diecast Digest is getting these price/values.

With E-Bay & me it's a love/hate relationship, love them when I want to buy and hate them when I want to sell!

I've been thinking about taking a bunch of these cars to a childrens hospital. Get the poor little kids minds off of there problems
for a while. Make them happy.

I have to look into that.

I've encountered the same thing with 'vintage' Bicycles from the 70's and 80's, but it's the other way around; the market on eBay is extremely overinflated! Average quality recreational 10 and 12 speed bikes that sold new for $250.00 are now selling for $400-$500.00! It's even trickled down to the local Craigslist ads, too!

But hey... if you happen to have one of the old Corgi Batmobile/ Batboat combinations in your collection that you'd be willing to part with, let me know!

If you donate your collection to the kid's hospital, not only will you make 'em happy and be doing a really good thing for them and for yourself,
but you can also take a tax deduction if you itemize.

If you decide to do all that, make a list of the collection, and estimate what YOU think the fair market value is. That Diecast Digest Price Guide
would be a good indicator.

You don't have to submit the list with your return, just keep it with your copies. If the DDPG says it's all worth several thousand, that doesn't
mean the entire value is fully deductible, but you'll still get something out of it that way.

Sorry Alan, I don't have the Corgi Batmobile/Batboat in my vast collection. The only thing I have in Batman that I can think
of right now is the Nascar Bill Elliott (Thunderbat) Thunderbird. It's the special Batman paint scheme car he drove in the 90's.

Hi Apex, Thanks for the tax deduction advice my friend. I've been digging out the boxes and going through my collection and
WOW!.. I have some really nice stuff. Stuff I forgot I even had. Definitely not toys. ... I do have some of the cars
and such that are more suitable for the kiddies.

I was digging out this big plastic container I use for storage tonight and hit the corner of it on a shelf that has a bunch of my
models that I built and store in there original boxes, about half of them (5) didn't only fall but they went past the third floor
railing and down to the bottom of the steps. ..... I was like NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

I lucked out, no harm done, nothing a bit of crazy glue won't fix.

Ebay is a weird place, I am currently attempting to sort out my old pokemon card collection(300+, takes a while) and from what i've noticed a non-english card can lower or raise the value by 2 euro.
Another example is one of the cards I found, none were on Ebay so I had to look elsewhere and it was priced at something like 80 cent! For a seemingly rare item that is very low seeing as a semi-common card gets you 1.50 and a rare one up to 10!

I don't know exactly how that tax deduction works, I did tax return no brainer entry work for seven years, saw enough stuff getting donated,
but never bothered to look at it in detail, boring, boring, and enough else to deal with, so I can't comment further on how it's done. There's
either limits or the deductible amount is related to something or other.

I think I recall that there is, or may be, a difference between cash and non-cash items. I saw plenty of Goodwill non-cash stuff being deducted,
so there's an indication.
