Glad to help.

Now that my environment looks, sound, and feels so much better, I'm having much more fun.

I just wish that my "planes" had radios in them that would let me listen in to the music of the countries that I fly over. :D

Good Morning Old Airmail... <<u

All the aircraft I owned and flew had Dual ADFs and VORs when VOR came about.

We used to listen to music and sports all the time while flying using the Aircraft ADF.

Here is a Link and there is lots of information on the internet on how to use an ADF... ;)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-directional_beacon

Advantages
In spite of the fact that many NDBs are being phased out, there are still some advantages to their use:
• The costs of both initial installation and maintenance make NDBs the lowest cost way for small airports to have radio aids.
• There are still some NDBs close enough together to permit cross country navigation.
• Knowledge of ADF-NDB use will help you pass the written licensing examinations.
• If there is an ADF in your plane, your examiner is required to test you on its use.
• Finally, you can use your ADF to listen to your favorite music or sports broadcasts while you are flying. It is suspected – and “documented” in movies like “Pearl Harbor” and “Tora, Tora, Tora”- that the Japanese planes which attacked Hawaii on December 7, 1941, used at least one commercial station to find their way from their aircraft carriers to Honolulu.

Disadvantages
Transmission from NDBs is subject to errors caused by the following:
• Electrical interference from the aircraft alternator and magnetos
• Thunderstorms
• Reflected waves from the ionosphere
• Waves reflected from mountains and the ocean
• Banking the airplane

Practice You Can Do
You can practice using ADF with the C-172 Skyhawk that comes with FSX or use any of about a dozen planes that come with X-Plane and quite a few other aircraft in FSX and FS2004.
and a few more.

I love NDB's, and it seems a shame (to me) that many/most of them are now being discontinued.
A wonderful, simple invention!
Fortunately, the Flight Sims still contain loads of them on the their Charts, and I love to navigate by them (and VOR's).
I often install my own Non Directional Beacons at my favourite Sim airfields, to guide me to them, when tuned on my radios.
That little yellow needle always guides me back home!
As Brett Henderson states in his posts; "Every Outer Marker should be a NDB!".... ... Many "Outer Markers" are NDB's!..Very useful!
I note that some of them are tuned to "Radio Program Frequencies" on the Aircraft Radio (rather than the usual NDB frequencies). A notable one for me is near San Luis Obispo Airport in Southern California!

My local Airfield (EGBS) has its own NDB located next to the Tower, and is useful to guide the way back home, if unsure!

Paul...Have Bendix-King Radio Stack...will Travel/Navigate!... ...!

I even fit a NDB radio and gauge in my aircraft which aren't normally fitted with them!...Microlights/Flexwings, etc!... ...!
Win 8.1 64-bit. DX11. Advent Tower. Intel i7-3770 3.9 GHz 8-core. 8 GB System RAM. AMD Radeon HD 7700 1GB RAM. DVD ROM. 2 Terra Byte SATA Hard Drive. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Saitek Cyborg X Fly-5 Joystick. ...and a Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower.

Hi Doug,

I to have found myself in your predicament of boredom. I use FS9 but it's the same idea I think. What I found (For me anyways) was to break up flying
with my aircraft repainting does the trick. For example, I've never, ever, ever stayed involved in one hobbie for so long at one time as I have with flight simming. One of my favorite hobbies was R/C cars. I even raced them for a while. the longest I ever lasted in that at one time was 6 months, give or take. But I've been into flight simming solid since around May 2011.

Sorry for babbling. :teasing-blah: Anyway, when I get bored flying I crack open one of my many repaint projects and get to work. Something different.. Ya know?

Hi Steve,

That's a pretty damn good analogy for your computer there. It sounds like your talking about my rig. I wish I could enjoy all these weather and/or
earth land mass upgrades but I seriously doubt that my current machine could handle all of it. But with that being said, I have started loading some of
these upgrades little by little and so far my dinosaur has been doing pretty good.

Hey Rich,

Thanks a bunch for the (PA18 150Hp Super Cub) hook up man. :handgestures-thumbupright: It's a cool little bird to fly around the neighborhood in. I wonder if you've had the opportunity to check her out yet cause I want to get your opinion on the flight dynamics. I wonder how hard it would be to tone down it's in flight reflexes a bit.

Anyway... Now that I've put you all asleep! :sleeping-yellow:

Hi BLAZE...much appreciated... ;)

When we lived on the Old Homestead miles from our nearest neighbors I never seemed to have a spare moment. Now, living in a city condo I find myself with several hours of spare time on my hands almost each day.

The Old Girl is busy all the time, I wish she would slow down a little...

Me, I find it unusual to have a hour or so with nothing planned during the day. Can not seem to get involved in the Microsoft FSX, perhaps because there is no motion or my limited selection of bugsmashers for the time being... :violin:

Today for example, the Old Girl is out with some Nattering Nannies, nobody is a the bugsmasher field, it is cold, damp and raining and yet I just can't seem to get myself going with a simulated flight. Believe me, I turned it on but could not come up with anything I wanted to do.

Never tried doing the painting or changing liveries thing.

I envy Paul "Fozzer" as he adds instruments and such to the simulated aircraft. There are a few aircraft I would like to upgrade and change some instruments with, like adding Dual ADFs and such.

My luck I would end up causing such a mess with the simulated aircraft that I would have to delete the whole FSX Program and download it again.

I am sure something will come along to peak my interest and fill in a bored hour or so daily, it usually does...

Still Bored?

Maybe something new will come along.

At least I'm beginning to think so.

Of course you'll want to make sure that your computer is up to it. I would guess that part of the minimums will be a 64bit OS & 8+GB memory.

I do know that you'll need a video card that has DirectX 11.

Luckily for me, my ASUS Radeon HD 6870 card does have DX11. Fortunately, if you need one, you don't have to spend a fortune, $80 will get you a pretty good card.

Thanks Old Airmail... <<s

Looking to upgrade this electronic gizmo after Christmas when the sales come on...

Have family who are going to build me a Motion Simulator once theirs is finished and then I can look at several options which will make things a little more realistic.

As I've said before, I'm enjoying FSX more and more with the last 3 add-ons.

But what I'm hoping for with Prepar3d V2 is better multiscreen support. As Prepar3d is intended for training purposes, it seems to me that better multiscreen support would be mandatory.

Likewise, motion control. Although "motion control" developed by a world leader in defense R&D might be a little bit complicated and resource intensive.

As for your soon to be motion simulator - you really don't want to play around with that. At least not until it's been thoroughly tested. Two years should do. Maybe a little longer

I'll send you an email with my shipping address. :D

Hi Old Airmail... ;)

There are several good Motion Units available in the United States for use with the Home Computer and the price is not bad.

One of my problems right now is when I download an aircraft which is supposed to be for Microsoft FSX and Acceleration I find that the Manifold Pressure and RPM can't be adjusted.
Sometimes the Carburetor Heat Control will not work either.

I have no problem with Pay Ware but would like to download a larger Free Ware selection.

Now that I am laid up for a month or so will have some time to work on my Microsoft FSX...
