Mind you, you folks up in Oregon can also get some pretty naff weather in the Winter, which is why I rarely Flight Sim farther north than Redding in Northern California!... ...!
...and Washington State is even worse!... ...!

I woke up this morning with the day-light falling on my eyeballs, and my body-clock telling me that it is 7:30 AM, and time to get up.....

.....but a glance at my bedside clock is telling me that its 6:30 AM!.... ....!

This is going to take a while to get used to!... ...!

.....and this brings up, yet again, my fascination with; "Time Zones", particularly across the USA!
How you folks cope with having different time zones from the folks living on the other side of the street, or the other side of town, or the next county, beats me!
I would be fascinated to know!
How do you figure out what time you should be at work when you have to cross a time zone a few miles away?
Fortunately for me, the whole of Great Britain lies in one time zone, GMT, so all our clocks display the same time, wherever we are in the country!
During my USA Multiplayer Flight I have to remember that my East Coast Chums are 3 hours apart from my West Coast Chums...

....and they are up to 7 hours apart from me...sat here in my comfy chair!

Eastern Standard Time, Central Time, Mountain Time, Pacific Time.

I have to keep a constant eye on the "Fox Clocks" on my Browser to make sure everyone is not still in bed on the Forum...and in Multiplayer!!

..and for me, its always; "Some Time Tomorrow" in New Zealand...12 hours apart!... ...!

That zone thing does crop up from time to time Paul. My health insurance is on the west coast and I can't contact them by phone until 11:00 am from my time zone.

Personally, I think it is a pain in the rectal cavity. Firstly, we should stay on summer time and secondly, we are only 20 miles from Europe and and an hour behind, it is ridiculous.
Western Australia has it right, they dumped the time move a couple of years ago. It is now the same time all year round.

Most time zones follow state boundaries. If you think the US is bad look at Canada or Russia or China.

I lived for a while in northwest Florida, near Pensacola (aka LA, Lower Alabama, the Redneck Riviera). That's in the US Central Time Zone, while the rest of my family lived in Tallahassee (a 3 hour drive) in the Eastern Time Zone. That's an exception to the rule but Pensacola (Florida's westernmost point) is about 600 miles west of Jacksonville (on the Atlantic Ocean) so I guess they couldn't fit the whole state into one time zone.

Alaska (the largest state in the US) also has 2 time zones but they kind of cheated. They crammed all of the populated area into the Pacific Time Zone (California, Washington State) and stuck some of sparsely inhabited Aleutian Islands into the Hawaiian Time Zone.

I hated that central time zone.

It must be so confusing.
You drive to a nearby town to make an early purchase at a shop, but suddenly realise, when you get there, that the shop doesn't open for another hour....
.....or you arrive a bit late, and suddenly find that the shop had closed an hour ago!

And as for making "appointments" across adjacent time zones....that beats me!.... ...!

Big notices on Interstate Boundaries;..."You are now entering XYZ. Don't forget to alter your clock/watch by one hour!"...."Have a safe Drive".... ...!

I lived in Yuma, Az for nearly 30 years. hated every second of it too. Horrible place. ANYway, there was the town of Winterhaven, CA less than 3 mi NORTH of Yuma, across the Colorado trickle. Arizona never did do Daylight Savings Time, so for 6 months out of the year, we were on the same time as California, 6 months an hour behind! Was kinda nice to be able to run over to Winterhaven after all the Yuma bars closed for another hour of whatever one does at bars
Duck hunters did the same thing too, as they had to wait for official sunrise to start shooting the poor things, until both California and Arizona got smart and made it when the sun actually cleared the Horizon at the field elevation of the MCAS Yuma airport.

I never much saw the point to DST myself, but I understand it was for farmers to get more time in the fields somehow. As for timezones, they originated, as I understand, in The UK to make train schedules and clocks line up properly all across the whole country, but I may be mistaken on that.
