Can you run me through FSX to the SimV server?

Postby machineman9 » Sun Feb 15, 2009 8:30 am

So I've got FSX, and I noticed that SimV is using a different server.

I read the page and it said I need FSHost Client, so I've got that. I've also got HostSpy and Host and all them.

I'm just wondering how you go about actually connecting. I am fine at the bit where I get FSHostClient to connect to the server, but how do I connect to that through FSX?

Cheers

I'm one egg short of a four egg omelette.

Disc 4 got shattered in the drive. Shall have to await a new disc.

It's a shame. But I still like the majority of FSX more. Besides that multiplayer system which doesn't really work when it should. LAN party anyone?

I do like it, and I remember flying with you one, Paul.

I seem to remember you in your Baron and I tried to chase you in a helicopter. Sort of worked until I crash landed into invisible scenery.  ;D

Good days.

While browsing the Gamespy forum today, I ran across a possible fix to the long dreaded problem of getting kicked off, or not being able to login.

The poster recommended clearing all cookies before attempting to log in, and claims that since he has been doing this, he has not experienced any problems at all.

I have not tested this myself, and probably won't because I use FS9 for multi, but it is worth a shot if you have no choice but to use FSX for online play.

Another tip is, when you do manage to log in. switch from the freeflight lobby to another, the whole cause of the problem is that every FSX user online is trying to cram into the same lobby and there is only so much room, so it kicks people out to make room for someone new. ;)

I can give it a shot. Isn't one of the service packs also supposed to help connect too?

I think that was a big part of SP2/Accel, but I got them at the same time, so I never got to try online with just FSX.

To connect to the server here, I believe you just enter the IP of the server in the connect directly option in FSX (I think, don't hold me to this one. :-/)

Must you be going through Gamespy, as in, signed in online, or can I do it through LAN?

Because the first has its problems...

I think I tried both. I left it searching for a minute or so and I cancelled. Can try searching for longer, later.

Nope, Shane.  For FSX to connect to a FSHost server you need the intermwediary software running to "trick" FSX into thinking it is connected to Gamespy.
