Software tests your ports before you join session

Postby JBaymore » Sat Sep 06, 2008 10:22 am

One of the biggest problems with multiplayer is when someone does not have their ports set up correctly for joining a FSHost online flight server.

This little program by the developer of FSHost lets you test your computer before you try to join a session without checking, and thereby might give other players the dreaded "All players could not connect" message.

From their website:

[i]First, if you have FS2002 or FS2004 running and you're connected to a server, disconnect from it (but you can leave the program running).

Ta, John....very useful...;)..!

Just ran a test with no problems, but there again, with all my simple Wired Modems, with no ROUTER involved, I have never experienced any problem with Ports with years of "Multiplaying", anyway!... :)...!

Most of my on-line Chums "Port" problems seem to occur when they are using "Routers" within their Internet Connection system.

My Modems are always just simple Plug-and-Play, Wired Modems....no problems... :-*...!

After many years of Playing on-line with my simple Wired Modems, with no Port Problems, I have just changed my Service Provider who has supplied me with a "Free" wired Modem-come-Router which has now given me all the dreaded Port problems.... :'(...!

SmartAX MT822...http://www.practicalpc.co.uk/reviews/ha ... -mt882.htm

After searching the software innards of the Modem, (including an Internet search for advice), regarding setting up Port Forwarding in my Modem for my Flight Sim FS 2004, I was forced to give up with no success.

The usual phone call to the Service Provider for guidance was also the usual waste of time... >:(...!

So, searching the 'Net for a suitable program to do the job for me, I finally found this truly excellent Program, which not only located my particular Modem make, and all my individual Games requiring Port Addresses to enable problem-free Multiplayer, but also automatically loaded the Addresses into my Modem for me.... :-*...!!

Highly recommended for all those who have given up attempting to fiddle with their Ports without success...>>>

....yours for $30/

Very nice.  ;)

We old timers on the server always seem to find people that disregard their routers and ports. Very annoying.

Good!

But anyway I don't see much trouble in opnening ports.

All I do is putting 192.168.1.1, in the internet browser, insert my router password search for NAT config and put the port numbers I want to open. :)

...unfortunately, performing the above, my Smart AX MT 882 wired Modem/Router doesn't have an option to insert Port Addresses directly....only IP Addresses... :'(...!

So...

As I have no use for a Router in any of my applications..

......my previous Thomson ST 330 wired Modem did not include a built in Router, and therefore I had no problems with Port Addresses in Multiplayer....

...is there a way I can disable the Router completely in my MT 882's settings, and just use it as a simple wired Modem...(like the Thomson ST330)..?

Any suggestions...and a list of the necessary settings?

Many thanks...;)...

There you go, Chums....Sorted!... :)...!

After 2 whole days of fartin' about with my new MT 882 Modem/Router, (from my new Internet Provider), trying to open all those hidden Ports.....with no success... >:(...!

I finally abandoned the bleedin' thing, and re-installed my old, trusty Thomson ST330 Modem (NO ROUTER!), (using the New Service Providers Installation Disk), and lo and behold no more Port Problems.

Back on-line again, and a quick check showed that all the Ports were open, every single one!, allowing me to join any Multiplayer Game with out the dreaded Port Problems again.... >:(...!

After wasting 2 days of all my aircraft  being grounded, my FS 2004 and FS Navigator are up and running smoothly again.... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]...!

So there you go.....if. like me, you are a single Internet user, just connected directly to the Phone line via a simple Wired Modem, there is no point in having a complicated Router, with all its attendant problems!

The only problem is, simple Wired Modems are difficult to find, the market being swamped with fancy Wireless Modem-cum-Routers... :'(...!

F.......Back on Mulitiplayer Line again!....Happy Bunny!... [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]...!

Note: I still get the same Download/Upload speed* in the old Thomson ST 330 USB Modem as I did on the Fancy Ethernet MT882...;)...!

* < 6 Mbs.... :-*...!
