Forum profile won't change

I keep trying to change my profile, but it won't work. It takes forever, then I get some sort of error page.

Nothing new ........ try when it's quieter.

1. do it at a quiet time

2. only click the profile link from the main forum index (if not you will wait ages and be faced with a blank screen. nothing will have changed)

Same old, same old. Also it doens't matter how quiet it is. I'm in Australia and am quite often the only one on. I try changing my profile at these times but it's still slow as all hell. Any possibility that it's a prob with YaBB?? Make update to the newest version? Or even convert to phpBB??

Pete has explained several times that the forum is now just too big & unwieldy. It's a wonder it still works at all.

Ah, I see.... So not even the conversion tool would help? I'm on the YaBB site now looking for possibilites and stumbled onto a converter/upgrader by YaBB that promises no post or member loss

I think Pete has tried all avenues with the help of the YaBB developers. The script was never designed to handle so much traffic. If I understand it correctly the only answer is a complete upgrade which would obviously involve a lot of work & possibly mean starting all over again.

It certainly is. I came in at 6.30 this morning to remove half-a-dozen linked or oversized avatars!

Well, i finally was able to change my profile a day or two ago after reading EirePlane's tips.

Still, my avatar and signature pics won't display. how do i get them to be visible?

make sure your pictures are uploaded to the simviation website using the upload page at http://www.simviation.com/yabbupload.html

when the pictures are uploaded, you should be presented with a screen giving you the url to where the pics are uploaded (it will be in a table and say something like "[IMG]http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/yourpic.jpg[/img]")

simply paste this part into the signature part on your profile page

if you are using firefox/opera/anything similar it might help to do this in two different tabs

if you are using IE then two windows might help just as much

edit: the avatar is done in the same way except remove the [IMG] and [/img] parts first

Alright. I've managed to get a new avatar, as you can tell.

However, when i tried to re-upload my sig pic, it said that the pic already existed, but when i go to the link, there's an error page saying the image doesn't exist. so, should i re-upload it under a different file name then?

aye. new upload rule. cannot replace existing pictures, must upload under new name. before this rule, it was very easy to change an avatar or sig. times change...
