Uploaded images not showing

I just uploaded some images and they are not showing.  I know the problem is not my naming convention as I have used it for some time now and not had a problem.  The upload page is saying that the upload is successful.  I tried uploading them one at a time...

I just tried posting some pics in the joke forum and got the red X of doom...
I also intermitently get the HTTP 500 error when I try and post...

I noticed that some of my pictures would be succesfully uploaded but not displayed in a post within the [img] tags. However if i were to paste in the url to the pic used in the tags, i get the pic loaded up fine. I thought i noticed a pattern to this problem: my pictures are normally named, ex:
MOUSY... (1).jpg
MOUSY... (2).jpg, etc
I think whenever the image has (8) or (18) (i think anything with the pics fail to show. Just a normal observation, may not be anything. I may test my theory out further later. Any suggestions would be apreciated.
