Thoughts on upgrading.

If you’re thinking “My computer is old, and needs to be replaced” that gives me hope. Most people who are fanatics about always being on the bleeding edge of computers wouldn’t say that.

If you’re like most people, what you have is the best that you could afford at the time. And THAT means that you probably have room to increase the speed of the computer in a way that you haven’t thought of.

Look up your motherboard online and find the fastest CPU that it’s capable of using. If you can’t find it, download the latest version of “PC Wizard” (it’s free). Click on the CPU chip icon and it’ll tell you what CPU socket you have.

Then go to PriceWatch.com. Next look in the “components” > “CPUs / APUs” for the fastest chip that you can afford.

You might be pleasantly surprised. When I bought my motherboard the fastest (at the time) CPU cost well over $1,000. Now it’s just under $500.

Learn what your options are before you decide to replace that computer. I usually replace parts inside my computer when it both make sense, and the parts have dropped down to a reasonable price. Even if you have to pay someone to put the parts in for you, you’ll come out ahead.

I always buy the best better motherboard that I can afford and a midrange CPU. I know that Later on the fastest CPU will be more reasonable. Buy it. Pop it in. PRESTO - a "new" faster computer.

You, on the other hand, really should replace your computer with something a little....

Well... little.

BUT if you could put it in your pocket, you would be at the height of fashion:

Your pants would be down below your butt.

Looking at your old dumb phone and your old computer I wouldn't figure you for a fashion hound anyway.

Not like me.
