Specs for my next pc are:

ASUS Rampage 3 extreme

i 7-970 OC to ~4Ghz

8GB DDR3

500GB HDD

256GB SSD

Corsair H50

GTX590

So what psu do you think I'll need?

You would probably need a quality 750 power supply or bigger for that system.

Also since you are getting such a high end system I would ditch the Corsair H50 and get Corsair H70 instead, or Noctua NH-D14.

Maybe a SSD too.

What are the advantages of an SSD? I've been considering getting one but I'm not sure if I should or not.

Hard drives are mechanical. They have moving parts. When a hard drive needs to read or write the disk head has to physically move over the part of the disk that will be read or written to. SSD's are not mechanical. They are by definition Solid State, no moving parts. So the latencies are are ENORMOUSLY reduced. Access times are more than 10 times lower and read and transfer rates can be several times higher. In some certain workloads SSD's can be a thousand times faster.

So basically, things will load much much much faster with a SSD. System responsiveness will be improved. Stutters in games caused when the hard disk has to load something should also be reduced or even eliminated. They also create no sound. Problem is, they're expensive. If you don't think you can fit whatever you want on a reasonably priced SSD then look at the 10,000rpm 600gb Raptor, else a 7200rpm 1tb drive should suffice.



Also GTX 590 has dual graphics processors which are of no use to FSX. If your system is only for FSX then I recommend getting a GTX 580 instead.

My system will be mainly for FSX and MS Flight so I'll stick with a GTX 590 (mostly because I want 3D with 1 Graphics Card).

Windows + most commonly used programmes on SSD including FSX / Flight. Storage on a big HDD.

As long as it is a quality 800 watt power supply. An example of a quality power supply is most products from Corsair, Enermax, and Seasonic.
