Confusion about NVidia fixes

Postby Demious » Sun Mar 20, 2011 12:36 pm

I'm a novice on this site as well as to flight sims and I'm trying to figure out how to set up my system with Nvidia GeForce8800GT.
I understand that Nvidia replaces settings from the game, by setting from Nvidia and that that has to be fixed.

I read several posts, but most are several years old already and are talking about older software and connected problems. I also read a post that say there should be newer fixes for drivers from 25something on, but it doesnt say which drivers this points at. I would expect the driver from the video card, but the number of my driver version differs so much from the mentioned number, and is the most curent version(just updated), that I dont dare to trust if I read it right...

Can someone please point me to the most relevant post about this issue, which is appropriate to my system?

These are the specs from my system:

Acer Aspire SM5640, intel Core2 Duo CPU E8200 @ 2.66GHz
(Motherboard has been replaced by an Asus P5QL-E)
3GB RAM
Win7 32bit
NVidia GeForce 8800GT (driver version: 8.17.12.5896)
with NVidia control panel 3.3.532.01

Thanks in advance. :)

I did have (BFG tech) Nvidia 8600 GT and I now have (BFG Tech) Nvidea 9800 GT. Both cards would not run FSX worth a hoot when using the latest drivers. I've been running driver 174.74 on both of them with success. There is likely a better driver out there and if there is I would love to know what it is myself. (I've asked before, with no response) I use Win XP (32 bit) by the way. If you find a driver that works for you, set up Nhancer as per Nick N's posts.

The best old Nvidia driver is 182.50 and use NickN's instructions for nHancer to set it up.

Thanks! I couldn't find that in all the documentation. I miss Nicks great threads, but I can understand that he had to move on..

It seems weird that all drivers mentioned look like: xxx.xx

The diver windows installs by itself looks like: x.xx.xx.xxxx
Also when I have windows search for the latest drivers.
I read somewhere that the new 26x.xx drivers from Nvidia wouldnt need Nhancer anymore and I believe this also was a post from Nick N.
I'm gonna give this a go and will post the results. :)

I just installed my computer and followed the instructions of NickN, but when I got to the nhancer seetings I got stuck.
I see some pages in his post with the settings, but how do I get to those pages?
When I start nhancer as I do other programs, I get an nhancer logo on my screen, that disappears and then nothing...

I'm using nhancer 2.5.9 on win7 32bit, with Nvidia Geforce 8800 GT with latest drivers.

I have Windows XP and Nhancer 2.5.7. I never allowed Nhancer to update, so I can't be of much help.. If you get down to the last straw and have no more ideas you could try 2.5.7 Mine works quite well.

What drivers do you have installed because nHancer will not work with drivers 25X.XX and above.  If you are using 25X.XX and above you need to use NvidiaInspector and the link you referenced above is for NvidiaInspector.

Ah ok, that cleares things up. I indeed have drivers 26x.xx, but with all the links from post to post, I got the impression that I needed both inspector and nhancer.
I got inspector setup now, so I'll remove nhancer, then it should be fine.

Thanks. :)
